Almagro is a joke

I'm really not a fan of this guy. The only place he can win a match is on a clay court, and that needs to be at a tournament where none of the top guys show up.

I've not looked at his points/rankings breakdown but god knows how he reached top10. It seems all his points each year are collected on the South American clay court swing plus any other minor atp250 and 500 tournaments he can find that noone else decent bothers to play.

(on the note of where has he managed to collect so many rankings points from, I'd have to add Monfils into that bracket at world no7! His only decent result that comes to mind is Paris RU, after that I cant name one good result. I'm actually a fan of his though eventhough he is frustrating. Atleast he doesn't just go out in the first round seemingly 90% of the time he steps foot on a hard court.)

I know I mentioned Monfils, but let's try and just stick to Almagro bashing please :D

Almagro is a very good player, very underrated. Has the offensive baseline game to really trouble the top players. Djokovic in particular will struggle to beat him if they meet on form at the French Open next year.

Would not be surprised if he was the next world number one if he can develop his game for other surfaces. Definitely has the game to win multiple slams.

I started the week not a fan of Almagro's game on clay, but he has converted me with his attacking game and shotmaking. I daresay an on form Almagro would be an entertaining match against Rafa Fed or Djoker at the FO.

I aint mad at Almagro.

He's got a killer 1H BH and a solid FH. His problem IMO is his return of serve; It's the weakest ROS I've seen outside of karlovic, from this era. I thought he was making strides mentally after his Nadal match at the FO 2010 but obviously not......

Well he beat Isner at Wimbledon so his return isn't that bad..

I think he's got a great game that can do well on other surfaces besides clay. I'm not sure why he hasn't done anything on the hard court. His game looks like it suits the surface. Main problem with his game is mostly mental. He seems to lose focus from time to time, even within a set where he should just finish the guy off but ends up playing extensive set and sometimes ends up losing.

He is playing in the Hamburg final right now. I like his game, even if he can only play on clay-courts. One of his major problems id his mental weakness. Besides that what is the difference between him and Nadal?

He's always bring a ***** to ball boys and he may actually be mentally weaker than Murray if that's possible.

Mental weakness, mental weakness, mental weakness, mental weakness...............

Enough already, this is the go-to analysis for EVERY player.

Well listen, he's smart. Why would he play tournaments with top players? So he can prove something to someone? He plays couple of clay court 500 series tournaments without top players, and that's a smart thing to do.

He is not as talented as top players, but hey... he chooses his schedule carefully, and good for him.

Please!! No more descriptions of guys in the top 15 in the world as "a joke." Does the rather confused christos liaskos ("I'm really not a fan of this guy"....."I'm actually a fan of his") think Almagro has the game to be a top 5 player?? I think he's done pretty well for himself considering what he's got.

I'll take Almagro over Murray any day.

So you would rather have a 'stellar' career like Almagro's than Murray's?

3 slam finals + 6 Masters and world no.4 is that little bit better than collecting cheap points playing ATP250/500 tourneys...

Yup, just like I wouldn't mind having multiple 4.5 trophies versus having my current slightly above .600 Open level record. Hardware is hardware. I hate losing in the finals more than anything...

Another fan of Nico. Awesome one hander. He was quite nice in Barca. Signed and took pictures with some of us after his warmup for his SF match.

Wish he would have come to the US and played LA - but respect that he has to manage his career as he sees fit to maximize his ranking.

I hate Nico's show-boating attitude on the court. However, you gotta respect what this guy does week in and week out. He's played a lot more matches than many other top players and really dedicated himself to fitness as of late.

He's a great player, with potential to perform on other surfaces. I don't believe is at a caliber of a multiple grand slam champion, but he is a floater in any slam draw and maybe one year he'll catch a lucky break.

IMO he has a great game to watch, if he was more comfortable following up his big groundies to the net and a bit more clutch in tight situations he would have been a contender for the big titles.

Why do you have to disrespect a top 15 player ? He just reached a final of a 500 ATP even and was beaten by a former top 6 player who's making a good comeback and has beaten the likes of Monfils, Youzhny. What's the joke about that ?

People in this board throw insults to everybody on a whim. If Almagro is a joke, then what does that make of Monfils, Youzhny, Cilic etc who played and loss the tournament. I guess I was watching a comedy series ....should I LOLed then ?

I know right? Not to mention all of the endorsement money Murray has made.
Who in his right mind would pick having Almagro's career over Murray's? :-?

The top ten is not some holy grail that one must accomplish a great feat in order to enter (well for us amateurs it is, but not for a top dog). It is comparative. There are online 6 guys who are really good now (top 6) but there still needs to be 4 more guys in the top ten and I don't see better guys than the ones who are there (xept i'd trade monflis out for Delpo and fish out for devvarman)

Why is he a joke? He's a solid player who has had a very good career. If he's a "joke" because he never made he next step into the upper tier of players or never truly contended for Slams, then 99.9% of players throughout tennis history are "jokes."

Would you use them as paperweights?
