Wow. Now you're a racist too. S

and the 36 year old ignorant misogynst racist contiues with his bigotry. Said bloke talks smack on the internet and says David Beckham achieved nothing of note. Guess Beckham should hsve given up football, sat in front of his computer all day and made racist remarks against East Europeans and misogynistic remarks. Very sad, dear brother.
In fact Eastern Europeans are the most racist group of people in the world . Ask them their views on Indian people and black people.

Still waiting for u to send me your number or link to Facebook profile. Beckham is not considered a legend at Man Utd by their fans . He was a good player nothing more. He had no left foot, couldn't tackle, had no pace, and couldn't head a ball and was a bit soft. At Madrid he is hardly remembered by their fans like both ronaldos Roberts Carlos, zidane and figo.

Beckham is miles behind giggs and scholes. Ask any man Utd fan. For idiots to mention beckham in same breath as Murray is an insult to common decency .

Can you name some "internationally recognized" awards for this category? No because you can't get higher awards for club/country player of the year than these. And massive LOL for comparing Coventry's player of the year to Manchester United's and Real Madrid's btw.

Coventry weren't always owned by some dodgy corrupt tax dodging hedge fund called sisu!

I judge footballers off two awards...world player of the year and the ballon d'or which are two slightly different awards as one is by the journalists and one by the players I think.

Beckham won neither.

Jeez...I tell U what football not your strong point next u will be telling me messi is better than Ronaldo!! Don't even try that one!

So? There have been great players who never won those two awards, does that mean they have done nothing of note? Anyway I proved my point that Beckham was the best player for both of the big clubs in one season, try finding me some "internationally recognized" awards that say otherwise.

Of course Messi is better. Ronaldo had the better year in 2016 but overall Messi is higher quality, more complete and more successful.

U proved nothing other than a lack of knowledge. Ronaldo is far superior to messi. On every level.

Beckham has achieved nothing of note. You have not cited anything to prove otherwise! Ryan giggs and Paul scholes were the best of that generation and Madrid fans don't even rate beckham they think bale is better!!!!!

If you still confused read Alex fergusons autobiography! However u seem to have problems reading books that prove you wrong

Ronaldo has achieved far more in his career than messi. The crowning glory was an international honour something that messi simply has never managed
8 more goals but 147 more games, less titles, less assists, less individual awards and he is far superior?
e5318995.gif
And I am only using numbers/stats, not the actual level of play and what the two can perform on the pitch where Ronaldo isn't close to Leo.

Why am I not hearing anything about the Olympic Gold medal? When we talk about tennis you just can't stop talking about how Nadal and Murray won that but now you decide to ignore it completely. Talk about double standards of the highest order. Sad...

Dear oh dear...

Comparing a central/right midfielder with a winger now?

What does Sir Alex' autobiography have to do with anything? Did he say "I agree with punterlad's view" in it? :D

God u r thick! In football it is an u23 event so not full international status!! Didn't u know?!!!!!! Ffs!!

Ronaldo is record goal scorer in champions league and only reason he has less awards is because of jealousy!

Messi isn't even the best Barcelona player of past decade xabi and iniesta were better.

Argentinians hate messi. Maradona their idol

A few older players can participate as well in case you didn't know. As for the almighty tennis Olympics, care to explain why did 16 out of top 32 players skip the last edition if they are so prestigious and even on par with Slams according to you?

Context please. Older guy has only two goals ahead with over 20 more games played. What kind of jealousy are you talking about? He has less awards because he isn't the best, simple.

Messi is the best Barcelona player ever. Btw, Xabi? How do you even have the cheek to talk about this stuff if you can't even name the players right?

He wouldn't be still playing for Argentina if his people hated him.

U really are ignorant. Barcelona fans worship xavi and iniesta . Messi has been great but he is behind Ronaldo. Real Madrid are a bigger club than Barcelona and are happy to have the biggest star in the game.

This generation of tennis has been about six players, the big 4 plus Del potro and wawrinka. All 6 say Olympics the equal to majors so who are u to argue?

Bobby Jr

G.O.A.T.
so? he was the first
So? Murray isn't the first man from his country to win Wimbledon. It's just a long gap since the last on. If a stack of British guys won Wimbledon for the next 20 years it would surely lessen the luster of Murray's titles at least within comparisons among his countrymen.

Being the first four minute mile running is a great achievement but, given the may thousands of people who have done it since and the rate at which others achieved it soon after Bannister, give it some perspective as to how difficult it is.

They are heavily adored but Messi's status is even bigger. I know Barcelona fans and their preferences better than most in the world do so don't try lecturing me on that. Real are a bigger club but that is a whole different story, we compared two individual players and the one you prefer doesn't have a case unless there is brutal cherry picking.

All six say that? Care to post a source? Of course not because there aren't any.

In the end it was actually my mistake engaging in an argument with someone who disrespects Beckham, claims Ronaldo is superior to Messi on every level and says Xabi instead of Xavi. Embarrassing really, nothing more to say.

If you only celebrate the last then you will be waiting a long long time, the nature of humankind is to build on the past achievements of others, always has been and always will.
I'm surprised that you are able to communicate your wisdom using this medium, why aren't you waiting for the next best thing in computing, that thing you're using presently is evidently worthless.

You are underrating the magnitude and impact of it.
Murray has not moved an entire sport forward.

And Murray is not clearly the best at tennis from the UK either, people are just in the afterglow of his #1 ranking. Perry was greater, tbh.

Yes.. and no, Murray has moved an entire sport forward in the UK, and maybe just maybe some British boy of girl will move the entire sport forward, but you are right he does underestimate those go before.

Ronaldo had more goals at the highest level has actually led his country to a major honour and has won more European trophies! What more do u want? People like u just jealous that he isn't an ugly dwarf like messi!!

Messi is hugely overrated and the biggest laugh is that playing for argentinas golden generation they won nothing! Even garbage like Brazil won more in that period!

Beckham isn't rated by Alex ferguson hence why he enddd his career with a boot over his eye!! Ferguson knows football u don't! Ferguson rates Ronaldo higher than Messi.

Pick up yesterday's daily telegraph murraybsays Olympics bigger than Wimbledon. Djokovic puts them equal! So I suggest u stop embarrassing yourself you clueless uneducated moron

British sport must be in a very very sad state now, and in the past, for Murray to be voted the best ever.

Britain has a rich history in sports and probably the most diverse in the world, we did have medals in more sports than any other nation at the olympics, more than China and the USA, but we never seem to have the ultimate once in a lifetime sporting icons or even an icon in a particular sport unless it more of niche sport say like a Chris Hoy or Steve Redgrave, no disrespect meant, but are only on a global platform every 4 years, and are kind of 4 or 5 th choice sport behind athletic and swimming at the Olympics.

My top global icons in no particular order, Im not a fan of all and rate others ahead of them who are not on the list
Not one of those are British.
pele. Before my time but every knew
Maradona
Messi
Ronaldo
Muhammad Ali. Before my time
Mike Tyson
Floyd Mayweather
Carl Lewis
Usain Bolt
U could have added flo Jo but I think she cheated.
Michael Jordan( I don't follow American football or basketball)
phelps
Federer
nadal
Sampras
Graf
S Williams
Senna
Schumacher
jack Nicholas
Tiger woods
Lance Armstrong but we all know what went down.
Ledecky and Biles could join that list

I know I could had more but back in my childhood we didn't have social media in my day and tv exposure was limited and I remembering who I wanted to be like in the playground.

I think you would have to include David Beckham. He's very definitely a global icon recognised by all. Bobby Charlton too in his day. Maybe some FI drivers too like Jim Clark and Jackie Stewart?

I would say beckham is more of media global icon than a sporting icon, I think you need a balance between the two.
You could go back in time for Clark, but then where do u stop. It's like the Muhammad Ali syndrome as i call it. All the casuals know him more than any other boxer, but does everyone know Sugar Ray Robinson, arguably the greatest ever.

Most countries have a charlton, for example cruyff, platini, Eusebio beckenbaeur, but not everyone has a messi. Football has changed. It used to be about the World Cup globally, but now club football has become global and you can see the likes of messi and ronaldo every week.

TV and social media now play a massive part in creating our global icons, you really have a to be hard core supporter of that sport to know the sports past and some present stars. For instance I did not know about the story or brilliance of Seve Ballesteros until I got more interested in the sport and how much he was regarded and inspired.

Ronnie is more of an enigma, a flawed genius. Hendry and Davis have more titles

Ronnie is a bit like Gazza, but less destructive. Hendry and Davis are more ruthless and driven like Bryan Robson.

I think healthy Nadal should have been a contender for this. Nadal may be Spanish on paper, but his aura transcends national borders, the 2 Slams he won on British soil are actually part of his British soul. So Nadal effectively has a benign British horcrux. And he's a more appealing human being than any other British person in history.

Would nadal be favourite in a Spanish poll

Nadal was voted as the greatest ever Spanish ever athlete in Marca poll a few years ago, by a pretty comfortable majority, ahead of all of the successful Spanish footballers like Xavi and Casillas, basketball players like Pau Gasol, cyclists like Indurain etc. That is a remarkable achievement, especially considering how dominant the Spanish national football team were from 2008-2012.

http://www.marca.com/2013/11/26/en/more_sports/1385479946.html

Then again that is a benefit of being one of the greatest of all-time in an individual sport, you don't have to share your glory and limelight with anyone else. Spain's footballing success was a huge collective effort, with no clear stand out-performer over the others. The likes of Casillas, Villa, Iniesta, Puyol etc all made similar contributions to their 2010 World Cup triumph. If the team had been carried and dominated by one individual star performer (like Maradona for Argentina in 1986), maybe that player would be Spain's biggest sporting star.

Also the huge Barcelona-Real Madrid split would play a part, with both clubs being supported by over 30% of the Spanish population or something like that (many Spaniards support RM or Barca first and then their local team second). Fans of one club would find it difficult to like a star player from the other team too much. Nadal, Indurain etc don't automatically put off 30% of the Spanish population because of their club allegiance, like the star RM and Barca footballers do.

That's the point with footballers, there is so many great players because it probably has the biggest amount of participants, you have to stand out even more like messi and ronaldo have done.

Indurain was my favourite cyclist for a while, and have grown an appreciation of seve since I have gotten into golf.
