Anyone super picky about socks?

I am. I want grip in my tennis shoe and I need an insole that helps provide that along with the sock. I feel like a lot of players use slippery and thin running shoes and just don't know what it's like to be truly locked into your shoe without the foot moving separately within the shoe. Huge difference when it comes to footwork.

I really like the solinco socks. Not so much a fan of thorlo. It seems, for me, that the more coarse and cotton socks grip much better than the synthetics.

If you like coarse cotton socks it seems to me you can go to Walmart or Target and pick up a cheap pack of socks in the underwear section. Just don't tell anyone where you got them, and you'll be happy!

i can't endorse the price of the elite basketball socks by nike.. but the product is great. i was at one of the factory stores and they had a ton of all blue versions for $2.97 a pair and i scooped then all up in my size. since then i bought more colors whenever i found them for similar pricing.. absolutely wonderful socks.. compression, very well cushioned, and they look great wash after wash..

I like a good, breathable cushioned sock. I too can't find justification for NIke's elite pricing, however whenever I go to a Nike Outlet store I look for my size (XL) and will always buy as many as they have because they really are comfortable and durable.

Also check out places like Marshalls, TJ Max as I have found them there, just don't be picky about the colors.

Yep because wore just thin business socks in my Barricades for a while - hoo boy ouch

Am susceptible to plantar fasciitis as my older feet lose padding, and got a nasty dose after thin business socks just didn't protect. It's not much padding a sports sock offers but it just may make the difference. Hasn't Fed wowed us all these years in two pairs, doubled-up?

This is the ticket. Outlet and clearance stores usually have good prices as long as you aren’t picky on the colors.

TW Fitsox are solid, as well. I like to add a pair onto my orders.

If you want grip within your tennis shoe the best socks are the Falke Grip 4 socks. They are expensive but as far I am concerned worth every cent. Unique socks not like any others I have tried. I have only just started using them, I previously used Thorlos for many years. In addition you could make use of both eyelets and have a runners tie when lacing up, this will also help to keep your foot stable.

Solinco socks rule!!!

Played for an hour in NYC on clay with these for the first time, during an extreme heat warning alert. Forgot all about the socks, but as I was riding my bike home, I realized that my feel felt cool and comfortable. And these were the black ones [emoji4].
Looking forward to trying these again.

The best socks I've found are the Nike EliteGrip no show, (coincidentally their most expensive one at $28 a pair), should say "tennis" on the package.

My feet can be pretty sock sensitive. I quite like Injinji socks (toed socks). They look a little silly when your shoes are off, but they have been by far the best sock for blister prevention.
They aren't cheap, $10-$20/pair, but they are super high quality and will last a long time.

Also, socks with grip elements have become huge in football (soccer). They are available in crew lengths that wouldn't look weird on the tennis court.
Unfortunately they are ridiculously expensive... $30-45 a pair. Some guys that I play soccer with swear by them, but it's hard for me to justify the price
Trusox is the OG of the concept. Nike and Adidas also make "grip" socks, in addition to some smaller brands like Storelli and Falke.

Socks make a huge difference for me. I need something with a lot of padding. I am currently playing with the Nike Elite Versatility. The lows and the crews are both great.

Pretty much any Running Socks will do the trick... I've been using Saucony for years (for running, hiking , tennis and biking) with no complains at all. Saucony Men's Multi-Pack Performance (current price on amazon is $35 for 18 pairs) some times they cost 35 as right now and some times $60.

Used to never care but my GF gets me Darn Tough and FITS brand... I like both brands a lot. The Kswiss Hypercourt Express shoes Im using have a lot of cushioning so I dont need that so much as the compression and wicking... great on planes too.

Check out the double impact socks system by ELSO. They’ve taken the research from a lot of experts in kinesiology and developed a system that actually is designed around to socks each serving a different purpose. I wore in just about everything out there is nothing compares to these in terms of moisture management, support, cushioning, and comfort.

I also see right now that they have a introductory discount promotion running. If the code: ELSO20 is used, shoppers would automatically recieve a 20% discount.

Under Armour Charged Cotton are the best I've found. Not slippery at all, cushioned/padded enough. They are great.

1000% agree. I was having a ton of issues with slipping in my shoes, would tie my shoes super tight and still struggle with footwork. I thought I was going mad, and tried most of the "tennis-specific" socks on the market. I realized that any sock that has a high synthetic fiber content (polyester, nylon, rayon, etc.) lead to slippage for me. I switched to the UA Charged Cotton and have never looked back!!
Such a drastic improvement, my feet finally sit in my shoes and don't slip around. I use two pairs of socks when I play, though since I have a narrow heel and wider forefoot, my first sock will have the toe cut off and the top sock is normal. It's somewhat unconventional, but it really works for me!

At the end of the day, it's all about whatever works for you.

I'm lucky to have a friend who's a pro, he hooks me up with some Fila gear every now and then, they're easily the best socks I've played in.

Only that the toes seems run ON TOP of my toes. Youd think that would be common place but not so much. I have had the best luck with "training" cushioned socks like UA's Charged Cotton, Nikes 1/2 cushion training socks, and even Asics training socks work well for me. Bonus they usually come in a 6 or 12pk.

I’ve been really liking Thorlo level 1s. These days I have been needing more cushion, impact protection. Since I started wearing these my feet don’t kill me as much. Part of it may have had to do with the adida barricades I was wearing ...I swear those are the least cushioned shoes. Great stability, but killed my feet.

As a former soccer player I always exercise (including playing tennis) in quality soccer socks. The Adidas copa zone cushion socks are my favorites

Yes. I hate "no-show" or any such crap, and want the maximum length on my tennis socks, so that it keeps the sweat from the legs out of my shoe. Also I always want any extra cushioning I can get, so thick/softness under the foot is important for me as well. Also some obvious things you expect from any quality sock like "staying in place", keep the odor out and do a good job of sucking moisture and freeing it to air.

I never had a sock which slips that bad, and so I never thought about it. Also I never thought the socks helps with my foot work, but maybe...

Huge difference when it comes to footwork.

Just curious. You play with these tall soccer socks pulled up to the regular height like you would for playing soccer? I like cushioned socks. You are probably so used to playing with them it just seems normal to wear them high like they are intended to be worn for soccer.

No, I pull them up just a few inches above the ankle

OP had mentioned an insole that provides some grip on the foot. I've been wondering about this for a while. Any examples?

Storelli insole! You can buy on Amazon. It definitely grips. Might even be too much but that's a solid answer to my call. Very cool insole. I cut out the heel thing so you can too. You might really like it. You might find it too grippy but it is good to know either way.

I bought a few months ago some head performance crew socks. They feel thinner than the elite Nike but cushioning and grip is very good, I feel more connected than with thicker socks yet comfort is good.
I hate the Wilson high end crew socks, too thick and slippery, feels like ski socks lol

I'm definitely a sock snob. I have found merino wool socks to be the best for everyday use as well as tennis. I buy quite a few different brands, but my favorites are Swiftwick (their Pursuit line is the wool blend), Darn Tough (great socks with a lifetime warranty), and Feetures (Merino 10 line).

I’m picky about the cushioning level of my socks. If I’m playing a tournament, I’m gonna use a thick sock or at least double sock, but if I’m practicing I’m just wearing one pair of semi thick socks or double sock a cheap double sock.

Do they make your feet swear more being wool?

@mctennis First off, I assume you meant to say "sweat", haha. This is a common misconception about wool, specifically merino wool. It actually regulates the temp in either cold or hot conditions making the socks great for any season. The wool is also naturally anti-microbial, so you'll find your feet/shoes/socks stinking far less. You can get various levels of cushioning in wool socks from these manufacturers, everything from "ultra-light" to "heavy cushioning". I have found "light cushioning" to be the sweet spot for me. It's very hard to go back to cotton or polyester socks once you start wearing merino wool.

I promise I don't work for the wool industry! I just really like merino wool socks.

I find the "fancy" socks too slippery inside my shoe. The more expensive socks seem to have a higher % synthetic fibers which are slippery. So, I choose to use the cheap Nike socks you can get at Kohl's. They are 100% cotton and don't move inside my sneaker..

Basic Nike Crew socks but I size down in the 6-8 size. I use two pair for play, currently rotate several zoom cage 3s 10.5

This. I dont understand how people can wear adidas socks, they're 98% poly and my shoe slips right off.

Merino wool socks run hot compared to quality cotton/poly blend socks and create hot spots due to the excessive moisture that they keep in them. They are absolutely phenomenal for cycling/skiing where there isn't much movement of the foot in the shoe and in trekking, where the foot doesn't sweat as profusely while staying relatively put in the shoe. I say that as a keen proponent of anything merino, who has more socks and layers of merino from Icebreaker, Ortovox, Endura and Smartwool than many specialised shops.
