Asics Gel Resolution 8

They look a lot higher off the ground than the previous GRs, but that may just be the curvature of the outsole overlay.

Do they feel low to the ground and responsive?

How is the cushioning. How soft is the material caging the outsole?

What is the traction like?

Is breathability compromised by the extra TPU material in the upper of the shoe?

Hopefully the fit remains as it has been for previous GRs.

They feel LOWER to the ground under foot than the GR 7.

I tried them (GR8) on today. Fit was ok generally, not too high off the ground. True to size IMO but I have a slightly wider foot. However, the upper material (on top of the forefoot) is quite stiff and pushed into my feet every time I would push off the ground, which felt quite uncomfortable. It also make a squeaky noise. Not sure why you would need extra material that stiff there. For me personally, inferior to the older court FF in terms of fit and comfort.

The uppers take about 2 hours to break-in and then mold to your foot. Much more breathable than past GRs too. They feel great!

Big fan of the GR7 and was very excited for the GR8. So disappointing...... Felt narrow and long so I send it back. Then I read somewhere that they tried a half size down so I ordered a new pair. Bulls eye! So much better than GR7, FF2 and SS. Best I have ever worn. Lighter, faster, comfier, cooler

How can a shoe that felt "narrow" (let's assume that that was said in a negative way) be spot on when one goes half size down? That makes absolutely no sense.

Have heard too many horror stories about foot and knee pain with the solution speed ff...

I will second that. There is not nearly the same level of cushioning or medial support in the Speed as there is in the Resolution, and the GR8 is the most stable GR to date.

No idea yet. My experience with Asics customer service in general has been excellent.

Buy them through TW and you don't even have to deal with Asics just get a RMA from TW and send them in and they handle the return and credit you for a replacement pair.

I tried on the GR8's they definitely run wider in the front but longer also, I would have to go from a 10 to a 9.5. First time I wouldn't wear a 10 in any Asics tennis shoe (GR7, SS3, SS FF, Court FF, Court FF2)

For those of you who wore the original Court FF - how does the GR8 compare? I loved the combination of a locked in, cushioned, and fast feeling shoe that the original Court FF provided...

I liked the Court FF2 better than the FF1, and I like the GR8 better than both. The GR8 has better breathability, medial support, traction, durability, and stability than both (with comparable cushioning).

Original court FF is much lighter, the upper isn't that plastic material but mesh. I have Court FF1 and 2, the FF2 is a lot more similar to GR7 and GR8 in upper material and weight.

So far the GR8 has been great.More comfortable and plush than the SoleCourt Boost if you believe that. They are also a bit higher in the heel than the boost. They finally fixed the heel slippage also. The size at least for me was true.Recommending this one for sure!

I also prefer the stability of the Resolution but Goffin and De Minaur seems to be happy with the Solution Speed FF. :)
It's a speedy shoe for speedy player!

I find feedback from fellow recreational players, who I can actually talk to, far more meaningful and useful. Just sayin...

Adjust those laces. The shoe really wraps around your foot once you wear it a couple hours.

thanks but i pulled the laces out and was going to try a shoe stretcher but i don't think the shoe would hold up
i cant get my foot in even with no laces on, not even close
really surprised, the regular width must be fairly narrow

No such problem for me. They don’t seem overly narrow from my perspective. Call Asics and I am sure they can help.

Have worn all iterations of the resolutions. The first five were fine for me. Res 6 was tight up front. Res 7 was uncomfortable. The 8's fit me fine in my normal size. Like resolutions again, have no idea regarding ventilation yet.

Count me among those who are unimpressed with the color options. I’ve been a longtime fan of the ASICS gel resolution but it certainly hasn't been a linear path toward improvement. I had heel slippage issues with my last pair but I did enjoy the improved cushioning and the durability was super impressive. In some ways I thought the early versions were some of the best, mostly because of how low profile they were. Hopefully there are some more color options coming for this model...

I've only done about 6 hours in the 8s so far and there are somethings I like, but also understand the problems others might be having.

I think the narrow feeling is coming from the tongue and new lacing. They added another fabric inner (that starts right away at the bottom) to hold the straps and another that holds the tongue and starts earlier then the 7s. with the 7's they connect higher. also anyone notice the 8s tongue is just a little thinner then the 7s so the top of your feet might get sore rubbing into straps across the top.

If you have any type of ankle discomfort- the cuts are a little different so that might be the cause.

I have spenco insoles in all my shoes and even then my feet feel sore after a couple hours and into the next day right along the long tendon of the foot. I think that's because of the low feel, which I actually like because it reminds me of the 5s.

I feel faster in them and like some have said - they feel way lighter. I like looking down and seeing a different look/shape with the dynawall, but also cool to see the trademark star pattern in the toe we all think of when we think resolution.

other then that I'll keep at them, I really like them a lot and will probably pick up color ways that I'm into.

You changed the thin laces? I'm thinking of changing them also.

I don't know if it's better to half size down with this shoe, I didn't try half size down, but my standard size (11) is ok.

I don't feel fast with this shoe. Quite heavy in my size 11, about 440g and lot of cushioning so I don't really feel connected to the ground such as in other shoes. The rigid plastic upper is softer after one or two hours and mold better the foot.

I have orthotics so the final weight is more than 500g and I feel it. If you have orthotics you have to think of it.

I compared to the last Challenger 12 and feel faster with the Challenger. But unfortunately they are not as padded inside and I had a soreness behind the heel external part after one hour playing.

I prefer the lightness, the softness and the speed of the Challenger and its first in comfort (nice snug fitting) but the lack of padding inside is too bad. They are less cushioned of course but more connected to the ground with enough cushioning for people not too weighted.

I really wish I could use straight bar lacing on these, but it seems impossible with the loops that are in place of a few eyelets. Has anyone tried different lacing methods with these?

These shoes do what they say on the tin.

Actually they don't come in a tin so I made that bit up.

Great to come across uncomplicated shoes that work well as, er, tennis shoes.

This is a great offering because they have a locked-in heel and can really feel that gel underfoot.

I suffer a left foot problem (fat pad atrophy), flares up every now and then from street shoes. Even with this, can go and play!

Barricades didn't allow that.

So by way of contrast these has an advantage over barricades/vapors already.

The Gel Res 8.0 is narrow, and does run a bit long, I can see why buyers go down 0.5, but I tried doing so in the shop and was happy to stay usual size (left foot bit larger than right).

Anyone suffering foot probs, or wanting a straightforward shoe, I urge checkout this one.

ps. 20 yrs ago bought early asics tennis shoes, rubbery crazy things. Didn't, er, gel with them but different now, why did I not try them sooner...

If I take a size 10 in Nike tennis shoes I should get these in 9.5?
Nikes are narrow (generally) and the asics are somewhat too. I'd stay same size. Especially if yr a double or sport sock wearer. Is there any way you can go try them on?

(Basically you can adjust for roominess with socks or an inner sole or a lacing system, but you cannot make small shoes larger.)

I suppose I can just send them back if they don't fit. Not looking to start playing again til the weather gets warmer here. I've been looking into other brands besides Nike. I was going to go with the Prince T22's but their weight put me off. It seems like the Gel Res 8's have comfort and are relatively light weight. I also really like their style. Been seeing a lot of the pro players with them lately.

I got Nike Zoom Zero, Nike Prestige, and Nike Vapor X. They are all pretty good with Zoom Zero being my favorite. I'm also looking at other brands and the one that has been getting positive review is Diadora.

I won Asics Res 7 and it was a half size too big for me so I can't comment on Asics shoes.

I wear 10's in Nike tennis and running shoes and 10's in every Asics in the last 3 years except the GR8 felt too long for me in 10, but 9.5's felt perfect. I'd try them on to be sure.

I tried a bunch of shoes at ************** today and i ended up picking up the blue black gel res 8. I’m still not a huge fan of the available colors but this is going to be a favorite many players who have played in gel resolutions in the past. It feels super secure, stable, grippy, and low profile - everything I like in a tennis shoe. The heel slippage issues are fixed and the toe box is so much more comfy than the gel res 6 I was wearing. They feel a little less plush than the gel res 6 but that may be related to these feeling lower profile (less cushioned?).

Did you also try the new Nike Zoom Vapor Cage 4? I'm curious to know how they feel compare to the R8.

Yes I did. Those were the two shoes I liked the most and ultimately decided between. The cage 4s had more of a ‘slipper-like’ or cushioned feel. I imagine the Nike’s break in is super quick. The gel res 8s felt stiffer/more structured and slightly lower profile. The biggest difference was stability on the outside of the foot. I simulated cuts/changes in direction and the Cage 4s had more tendency to let the foot roll or rock to the outside. The Nike’s felt lighter and more comfortable, but the stability issue and my history of being pleased with the gel resolution pushed me in that direction

I also love my R7... The stability is the best you can find.
I had a Cage 3 and the R7 is way more stable.
But I love the design of the new Vapor Cage 4! I was hoping that maybe the stability would be improve... But I imagine how good the R8 can be!! Asics have the greatest brains to make the best shoes on the market.
I will only wait until a new cool color scheme is out. Because for now I really hate the current ones!!

Does anyone else find that you feel more confident moving laterally really fast on court as opposed to the Solution Speed FF (or any iteration of the solution speeds)?

I feel like I can maintain my balance better when getting stretched out wide with my GR8 (and GR7s)

I agree. The Resolution is more stable. But less fast.
