Aus Open was a class act!

Not to put down the other three Slams, but the Aussie Open has done a great job.
The final ceremony was magnificent, former champions carrying the Cup was nice touch.
The players seem to be pleased, great organization was mentioned numerous times.
Video analysis, frequent slow motions definitely add to the experience.
Love Jim Courier commentary also, very thoughtful, objective, to the point.
Please someone remove Fred Stolle from there - then everything will be perfect.

I really hate the slow motion stuff, very unflattering to the players and really boring.

The closing ceremony with 45 minute speech from the Chinese Kia Motors guy was a low point too.

Court was too slow.

Before they changed the surface it was becoming my favourite slam, particularly in 2007-2008 with aggressive players like Tsonga/Gonzo getting to finals. It was a surface every type of player seemed to do well on.

Pity.

KIA is Korean but that's okay, they all look the same anyway don't they? Plus his people only kicked a few million into the prize bucket.

I want AO to be like 2005 again. Sure Fed lost but it was such a great tournament back then. Remember the Baghdatis run? Fantastic!

Well the speech he gave was too long no matter where he was from.

I see your point of view, but I can empathize with the dude. He has been practicing this speech for weeks. Everybody back at KIA will be watching him on the world stage. This is a big deal for him and the company. He has memorised the speech. His English isn't good enough to improvise.

I love how both players were in total pain, cramping, and it took the staff a long time to finally bring in the chairs.

nadal and djokovic were class acts. nadal more so though. he outclassed djokovic with his comments after the match. i absolutely hate that nadal is a matchup nightmare for my favorite player of all time federer. and when he plays i root against him. but off the court he's one of the most humble, classy players of all time. plus he stuck around to sign autographs after losing a 6 hour marathon match. the guy's a class act all the way.

as for the kia motors guy. there is a reason you hire public relations experts or an actor to go up there and give that speech. like the same reason you paid blake griffin millions of dollars to make silly (but funny) commercials for kia cars. i think it was worse because nadal and djoker were cramping at the net while the guy was slogging through his speech. if djoker wins in 4 easy sets - nobody cares the kia guy is yapping on.

The Australian Open is the best Grand Slam hands down. It's amazing what they have done with the tournament in the last 20 years. If I could ever go to a Grand Slam event, that is the one I want to go to. Wimbledon would be next. The French and U.S. are just horrible events that I would have absolutely no interest in going to.

Too bad the women's final was such a horrible event between two shriekers. The tournament deserved better than that.

I really have no criticisms of the tournament itself but the audiences members were great. None of that disrespectful clapping after faults or being excessively loud during points. As far as the fans are concerned, the AO puts RG and the USO to complete and utter shame. Those awful, classless clowns in Paris and New York could learn something.

Yeah the FO is the polar opposite of the AO in terms of the decency of the audience, AO is my favorite and always has been. Too bad the surface has slowed down but its the same at the USO and Wimby so what can you do.

i liked how before they had these super slowmos they had to think up ways of creating atmosphere differently.
like the ever so epic and useless dramatic closeup of the net after a net cord gave break point or stuff like that lol

that stuff was gold

Indeed a great job!!! Always have a great time during this season. Maybe its the time of the year and the first major event of the year. The TV coverage was great. The user friendly website and the free streaming was a major plus for people living in the USA.

I was there in 2007... and Melbourne is a beautiful place. The tennis facility is outstanding and the atmosphere is refreshing.

Great job over all and I didn't mind the sponsors at all. Its nice to see a global representation in all aspects of the sport. I suppose KIA should have have had someone who spoke better English. As far as how long his speech was... why not pick on the other guys to. Its a small price to pay for the sponsorship. Its all good !
