a comment from Tennis.com site on this particular funny mannerism of bartoli:

"Bartoli also trotted out a novel move that made many observers alternately snicker,or scratch their heads, befuddled. Often, before she served, she would hop in the air, in place, getting not quite Michael ordan-grade air. When she landed, she finished with a quick, one/two foot shuffle, executed with her feet parallel. Undoubtedly, it was meant to keep her loose, but it looked like she was rehearsing a step for a forthcoming Paula Abdul music video."

I had no idea she was related to fabrice...shows you how much i know about her....maybe we'll all learn more about her as time progresses if/when she moves up the ranks into the top ten.

as for the hop--it was odd and yet unique...but if it works for her--then power to her....

This is an excellent piece, a bit wordy for me but I liked it and you can't help but admire Bartoli and her effort.

It's .... different.. when I first saw it. That's pretty much how I felt about it

I can definitely see her potential though..

she's got alot of potential, and even more weird habits. hip hop'n, 2HFH, and....

its funny, alot of people say that novak's ball bouncing would throw them off. anyone else notice that bartoli never bounced the ball before her serve? now THAT would throw me off! :D

I found the unorthodox hop-hop quite funny... maybe it's her version of a nervous tick; I'll try it tomorrow.

She's got strokes but she needs to lose weight. I heard her dad makes her run on a treadmill and then jump off in a split step and then jump back on the moving treadmill. Maybe a diet should be an order if the running isn't helping?

Bartoli's dad has devised a unique training program for her, and anyone who watched it on NBC will know about it as described by Carillo.

The Hip Hop results as practicing for hours with tennis balls tied to her feet so she can jump around lightly on her feet

her games is modelled on Seles with doublehands on both sides

Her father told her to GAIN 15 pounds so she would have more weight behind her strokes.

She jumps on and off a treadmill at high speed with weights on her ankles

His regimen obviously works and both he and R. Williams have to have the most unique coaching styles ever. Carillo described Dr. Bartoli's training as his "Great Experiment."

Bartoli is going to be ranked 11 on Monday from 23 and 500.000USD richer and thanked her dad on the court.
