Best synthetic gut

I just strung up some Pro's Pro Synthetic in the mains with Red Devil as crosses and like it a whole lot. I'd been using Claycourt Plus that way, but it breaks a little too quickly for me.

Have you played any of the colors of Synthetic? Do they play differently from one another like Prince Duraflex can? I've only tried natural, but was thinking of getting a reel in some color just for kicks.
I have 3 reels of PP Syn Gut in green, purple and blue. To be the green and purple pretty much plays the same. Not strung up the blue one yet.
I heard the black one plays differently to the other colours so not got that... yet

man, how long ago did i write this?? string straightening DOES bother me, haha. maybe i wasnt moving the strings as much back then.

fast forward four (eek!) years and i still prefer soft polys. feel-wise i really like the newer multifilaments, like technifibre HDMX and head velocity. synthetic gut is ok in a tighter pattern

I think, just how polys have evolved over the years, so have the synthetic gut strings!!
btw I also recently notised high level players going back to synthetic gut, and it got me taking a second look at them again,,
I currently have my w.ultra.tour and radical racquets strung with synthetic gut strings; to my surprice playing very nicely!!

ive also recently been playing with snapback to cure the string movement of synthetics, and it does help..

I wrote off synthetics a few years back and went to FB polys!!,, but now im having fun going through some racquets with synthetic gut strings again!!??!!

For everyone that voted for Gosen what color do you prefer? I’ve tried natural and white. I have to say I prefer the white for its color and it feels a tad stiffer.

I feel like Head PPS doesn’t have enough votes. It has great elasticity = power and pocketing. Made in Japan.

Gosen AK Pro CX is hands down the best syn gut out there. I tried so many after hurting my wrist with poly and the AK Pro CX is leaps and bounds better then the rest. Tension maintenance is as good as gut, string snapback as good if not better then most multi's I have tried (besides Tecnifibre HDX Tour).

I haven't noticed any difference. I have used the 17 gauge in all colors. I now use the 18 gauge in natural.

If it's made in Japan, it's likely made by Gosen. Gosen used to also make a lot of Prince strings.

@1HBHfanatic, which synthetics and in what gauge are you using? Also, what are you doing to improve snapback?

Tried many; don't like it in full beds. Only as a cross.

Gosen OGSM is the best!! Babolat syn.gut with slippery coating is next. Forten sweet and POSG are the softest.

Try Pro Supex Synthetic Gut Spiral Flex. It's not high on the tennis string marketing radar, but it's a very nice string in every way, including meeting your price point. Even adds good spin for a syn gut. Google it.

Where do you buy their strings?

I have to say that Prince Synthetic Gut is still the best bargain out there. Put it in the mains with Velocity crosses and it has that nice crispness on the front end of contact without the harsh ending on the back end of contact that you get with poly. It doesn't last but at it's budget price you can afford to restring more often.

I like Gosen sheep micro but not quite as much as POSGD.

I want that cheap < 5 dollars synthetic gut. Which one would be the best? Gosen OG Sheep or Prince original or something else?

Thanks!

Seriously. Forget syn gut. Head Velocity MLT 17 is a winner. Soft, arm-friendly feel, decent power, but not overwhelming, actually nice spin. Plays like an extra soft poly. Available for $8.95 with free shipping on the Bay. 100% worth a try. You will not be disappointed.

Another vote for Head synthetic pps- comfortable reasonable spin and good control

That is literally the worst string I have ever tried. I strung it at 24kg and played it on clay. Five minutes in, there were gaps in my string bed large enough to fit a tennis ball. 40 Minutes in, my fingers were bleeding from all the adjusting. 120 minutes in, it was snapped. An absolute horror of a string.

I have been using PSGD (black) lately and am surprised at how much more I'm liking it compared to Prince Original Syn Gut or even the other colors of PSGD.

For some reason I get better feel with it. Prince Original just feels muted and "vague" to me, although I think it is great as a cross string.

I can second that. The black PSGD feels a lot less powerful and has better control compared to the other colours I have tried, especially the 'white' colour which I have found to be strangely lively.

Agree. I can tell even when stringing it up that the black just doesn't feel the same as the gold.

I had been meaning to try other colors like the green and blue, but since I like the black so much I might not even bother.
