Bryan Shelton is a former top 100 ATP player with a successful collegiate coaching career.

Now Ben Shelton will have both Dean Goldfine (former Andy Roddick coach) and his father in his stand. Ben became the US's #1 collegiate tennis player while playing for his dad. Will be interesting to see how he develops.

All these people hyping Shelton have not seen him play live. He is extremely unimpressive, at least right now.
Every decent, young American player gets hyped to insanity.

To a slightly lesser extent the Australian/British/Canadians.

Fastest NCAA to ATP transition I can remember, killer serve puts him in competition on a good portion of the tour, even if he’s striking crappy at the back. Beat Ruud on NA HC 2 weeks before he played for No.1 in the world, quarters of his 2nd slam ever. 3-peat challengers at tail end of last year. NCAA champ individual and team. Young kid first year participating in the infamously brutal ATP schedule, there’s going to be growing pains, but make no mistake he is raw.

Pissed off that I missed watching him on the 4th tho, got courtside seats to watch right at the baseline and rain screwed it up.

I played him once many years ago at a satellite tournament. I watched him in Alabama when he was a top junior there a couple of years older than me. Really good guy and super talented. I believe he made the R16 at Wimbledon one year.
Man, I knew that guy looked familiar and the name sounded familiar, and now it all finally clicks. He was the guy who upset Michael Stich at 1994 Wimbledon. Probably one of my earliest memories of tennis were those years of Wimbledon in the 90s. He beat Stich and McNeil beat Graf that tournament. That was a really big deal then.

Exactly right. Here are photos of him.

Wow, pretty awesome. Great talent she was. One of the rare female serve and volleyers.
Very true. She and Zina Garrison were great players! She was definitely a aggressive player. Beat Graf at Wimbledon one year and Evert at the US Open. I went to a local Houston restaurant and saw her photos everywhere. Turns out the place was owned by her family. I talked to them and told them how proud of her we were.

Yea Zina Garrison had a good run at Wimbledon one year too. I can't remember the year.

That Wimbledon outfit, from the top all the way down to the shoes, is incredible.

He looks cooler than anyone from 2023 Wimbledon did by a long distance.
Spot on. Yep looks cool as &@$”! Great guy too. After he beat me easily 3 and 1 we talked and I told him how I used to admire him as a junior. He was the top 14 and under player in Alabama. I got into the top 3 in the 12s. He laughed and couldn’t have been more modest and kind. I hung it up after that loss because I knew if he was grinding it out on the satellite tour , what chance would I have of making a decent living? I’ll never forget that epiphany I had that day.
