Calling all college club teams

I'm president of a club team at Central Michigan University. I did a quick search on this forum and didn't find much in the way of college club talk. I know that there is a pretty significant population of college club teams and players out there. We compete in the Tennis On Campus system which is a collaboration of USTA and NIRSA. It's a great deal. Any school can start up a club team and compete in it. There are regional directors that set up seasons and matches with regional and national tournaments. It's incredibly well run and an amazing service to college tennis players everywhere. To get started just contact your regional director. Here is a link that I think should get you anywhere you want to go in this area. http://www.usta.com/tennisoncampus/default.sps?iType=13973&icustompageid=20609

I'd really like to see a forum for college club discussion I think it would be cool for bouncing ideas on coaching, fund raising, competition extra off of each other. So I hope to see a big response!!

Well, I'm technically a member of the club at Grand Valley, but either they aren't doing anything right now or I'm not being told about it. It's got quite a few guys so it's not like I'd be playing in any matches anyway. I'm thinking I'll become "active" next fall, hopefully the organization is little better. It looks like it's a lot to handle for the captain/president so I understand the issues he's facing.

Grand Valley just got started this year. It's really tough when you're first starting out. It's taken our team 4 years to really start getting it all together. Best of luck and if I can help let me know!

i know maryland has a club. they are only about 2-3 years old, but it has grown rapidly. last year they competed in regionals and eveyrthing. lots of fun.

I'm one of the captains at Syracuse. We just had a pretty good sectional championship that included close wins over Cornell and Rutgers.

I know it would be a long way for you to travel, but we are hosting a big tournament in early April called the Citrus Invitational. You can check out the flyer on collegeclubtennis.com.

That's looks like a great tournament! I don't think we'll be able to make it though, lack of funds. :( We just finished our regional championship with wins over Marquette, and Bowling Green State University. Lost in the first round of tournament play to Wisconsin. Great event!!!

Yes i know a great club tennis team in Northwestern University. I played on it for a semester, i was just taking a few part time classes there but they let me play so why not, right?? but i do not play anymore there. I only played cause i wanted to hook up with some really cute tennis girls from Northwestern. Do you know which colleges have the most cutest girls in their club tennis team ??

For those of you already in the Tennis on Campus program any speculation on where nationals will be held next year? I hope it's not Cary again three years would be a little much although it is a phenomenal facility. I'm hoping for Florida somewhere or Texas again. Austin was a great time!!

Randomname, you're on Texas A&M's club team? So is your school every going to have a down year when you don't have about 100 people who can play competitively?

I am the President of the UNC-Greensboro Club Tennis Team here in Greensboro, NC. I've been involved since it was started and I always have fun. We play some tough teams, but club is the best because you can travel, so club is pretty similar to the Varsity, we travel and play.

probably not, although we have lost most of the people who won our 5 titles (omon, odion, karka and kelly) right now we have 4 teams with an ex-varsity player

No Offense Texas A&M that makes me sick!! Call me a hater and your right! :) I'm so jealous you guys are always so good hence 5 championships in the last 6 years. But I have to admit most people on your teams are always pretty cool. At least to us non threats. For now anyways someday soon we will play with the big dogs like Texas A&M, Michigan, Virginia etc... I have to admit I always love watching the finals, great tennis. I'm sad the twins are gone it was great watching them play especially doubles.

Hey Fedace, you want to know a club tennis team with some cute girls? Clemson is where it's at... The other guys on my team tried to set up a match with them last year at nationals to coincide with when their football totally destroyed ours this year. Didn't work out because of the 17+ hour drive down. Would've been a lot of fun though!

well, you wouldnt be the only ones to hate us (i promise most of us are really nice people though). but there is a flip side to it, if your arnt freaking amazing you have no hope of being on one of the top two teams, and therefore have no hope of playing in nationals when players who are much worse than you get to go with wildcard bids at schools like SMU and tech. and yeah, it is sad that the twins are gone, they're so much fun to be around

Hey man,

To answer your questions, Yes my team and I are locked, stocked, and ready to go. The second answer is yes, We will be down in Sectionals, you know I couldn't miss a party, I mean miss playing tennis, so get ready because, "Finally, UNCG Club Tennis is taking the show on the road to Sectionals."

I totally agree, I'm good friends with the majority of the players on the team, and we're gonna try and have a match with them sometime this semester. Happily it's not too bad of a drive for us.

I really didn't see that many cute girls in club tennis. But I didn't get to see all of them, just 10 or so. Next time I see the club girls playing, I'll be sure to get a better look.

I'm thinking I should join club tennis in the fall.

in case anyone was wondering A&M beat texas in the finals of the texas sectionals tournament. A&M was up by one game going in to mixed, and ended up winning the tiebreaker 5-4

I know for a fact Clemson and Texas A&M has major babes on the tennis squad. I try to high five my mixed doubles partner in the rear and just pretend it is one of the guys thing. :)

I'm sure many college girls are used to getting smacked on the rear.
