Cheap Gut

Last time I tried gut tonic was 23.50. I am curious about some of the cheaper guts...Mamba premium, Gaucho gut, etc. are any of these even still available? Anyone tried them lately, I.e. in the last 3 months or so?

The problem with cheap gut is you are taking your chances with with quality control. Yes, some of those gut brands cost 40-50% less, but if you buy 4 packs, one breaks during stringing and another breaks prematurely, what have you saved?

If you are using it in a hybrid as a cross, it might be worth it, but in all honesty, if you are using gut, you really want it in the mains because that is where you get the most benefit.

I'd look at "lesser expensive" versions of name brand gut, such as Pacific Classic & Klip Legend. Pacific recently raised Classic to $30 / pack, but Legend is still $26...for now.

McLovin is spot on, if you can't take the price of the Babolat, Pacific Classic and Klip legend are really good options. One t hing you haven't said is do you string yourself?

And if cost is your barrier, you should try a hybrid with gut mains. Right now I'm playing gut mains with Isospeed pro classic crosses. Unbelievable softness, control and pop. $30 + $10 / 2 = $20 bucks per string job.

Or if you prefer a more control oriented setup a poly crosses are another cost effective option. However, the string bed will be much stiffer.

Performaxx??? I strung this as crosses in a couple racquets, but the product naming are so confusing I'm not sure what to try/buy.

I do string for myself. This isn't for me. I'm a full poly user. It's for a friend of mine who doesn't want to pay $30 plus stringing. If the $15 gut strings up, he will be happy. I was able to string some terrible $9 per set gut from the auction site years back. I tried tonic and bow for me with alu and by itself and didn't think gut is worth the money. My buddy is a 5.0 flat hitter who isn't a string breaker. I go through ALU in a few days and actually found the gut lasted just as long (tonic longevity). It just didn't have the spin that a premium poly has.

Try Titan Gut 17g (half set) for $10.99

I have been using Titan Gut 17g for 2 years.

Never broke it while stringing and it usually last me about 5 crosses (100 hours).

I string at a maximum of 48 lbs Mains (Titan Gut 17g) and 45 lbs crosses (multi/synthetics).

Crosses breaks first (about 20 hours) so I just re-string the crosses. I re-use the NG about 5 times (5 crosses).
