Disgust.
Have you not met the great dgold44?

I have but I nominated you first because TTW has bestowed yet another unfitting and preposterous title on you:

Still kinda crazy to me that Ferrer is retiring. He's won a title more recently than a bunch of top players like:

Raonic, Shapovalov, Wawrinka, Verdasco, Carreno Busta, Berdych etc.

Strange.

He said his body doesn't allow him to compete at the highest level anymore. He still has the fire, but the body is unwilling.

David Ferrer reflects on the approaching end of his 20 year career. The former world #3 is currently playing in the Barcelona Open and will play his last ever tournament at the Madrid Open next month.

Still one of my favorite players of all-time and who I have always told younger players to aspire to be like - to focus on doing the work needed to compete at your best level. Let the wins and loses fall where they may.

Yeah you can never say Ferrer didn't give it everything. AO 2011 v Nadal comes to mind.
And the French Open final against Nadal?
It’s different because I never had a chance. I’m not blaming anyone, but my motivation for that match was not the best. I went onto court a little distressed. And that’s normal because it was my first final. It’s logical. Anyway, maybe in those moments we were none the wiser. Neither myself or my team had a better idea of how to approach the match. We did what we could.

Doesn't sound like he gave everything

Who's beaten Nadal in a FO final?
Oh ok.

Why not believe him that stress of being in a first Slam final handicapped him?
In 2014 he was a little more prepared and took the first set from red-hot Nadal.

There's really nothing he could do in 2013, all his wins against Nadal since 2007 were very, very tight. Just doesn't have the power.

I always liked him. A hard working grinder who gets the absolute most out of his game and talents. Has had a finer career than many more talented players. Cute, sweet, and classy too.

He'll be missed. I've always liked players with that "fighter" attitude (such as Nadal, Hewitt, and I guess Schwartzman).

I obviously like flashier players, but I have to admire the hardest-working man of the tour. Ferru has this awesome humble, tough and reliable spirit, I can only wish him the best. Let's hope he doesn't start smoking again

Damn you Nadal fans, you always have to bring in that card don't you? How about taking the high road and being humble a bit?

Ferrer could believe all he wanted and the score would be the same lol, don't come for my Jesus :p how many games would you get off Nadal on Chatrier? ;)

You have a funny definition of "whipping boy" if it includes the man who won more slams than anyone else.
He has been Nadal's, whipping boy for a decade ,later on became same for Djokovic. If 9-2 at point in his doesn't mean whipping boy then I don't know what is.

Great interview. Another one of my favorite player to retire. Ferrer is the best role model in tennis. Always had the right attitude and mindsets, despite his shortcomings.

His last tournament is Madrid? Interesting. This might be why Fed entered Madrid.
Ferrer is a guy who's definitely earned a proper goodbye in the flesh. May as well
play in it too and give David one last chance, possibly, to beat him.
