Dunlop Max 200g... 50-60 lbs tension?

I strongly suggest 45-55 pounds. Back in 1987, I strung up a batch of new Max 200g’s for my tournament season, at 60 pounds, and by the end of the season, all of them were warped.

Sorry, I didn't mean that I "Liked" that your racquets were warped... appreciate the feedback.
I guess if I was Steffi Graf and had my racquets replaced regularly, I could do 60lbs, but that isn't the case. :)

BITD and when brand new, perhaps. You need to keep in mind that they probably only had Nylon and NG back then. Very few SG and multis. Definitely no polyester based string back then either. Historically, string tension recommendations were also on the high side. So, there is nothing wrong going lower if you are not liking the tension recommendations.

Historically I've been going at the 3/4 high-end of the racquets recommendations; for a 45-55, I would be at 52.5, using multi main and syn gut cross.

I was using Natural gut or Tecnifibre 416 and 515 back in the day in my Max200G's

As a side question, how much did it cost to have the local sports store/stringer install a full bed of VS Gut back in the late 80s?
Around Atlanta, most "forgot" about a retail markup and essentially added a labor fee onto the wholesale cost of the string. Late '80s, I'd say a low of $40 and a high of $55, depending on the shop.

Thanks guys for the advice.
I strung it up yesterday, multi mains 55# - syn gut crosses 50#, it plays like a dream.
I grew up playing in the 80s with the Wilson Avenger (or Force), Head Comfort Edge, Head Graphite Edge, never tried a 200g.
A friend of mine had one, he would spin the heck out of the ball, wicked kick serving.
Where has this racquet been all my life?? lol
Too bad its too underpowered for today's game, although if not playing in tournaments or bets, it's still a very worthwhile weapon of choice.

I string my Max 200g with MSV poly strings 1,18 with 50 ib tension. That works for me great. The trampoline effect is random and I can controll this beast much easier. The small racquethead makes it possible to Place my shots on the Court and play with controll and touch. I had never problems to generate topspin with Max 200g, it works beautifully if you work out to handle the racquet right. I used Babolat Pure Aero and Pure Strike for a couple of years but was never satisfied with it. I simply like the IMF frames more than the stiffer modern frames.

i still love hitting wiht mine. 18g syngut at 55lbs stringin with the weird pattern. serves to me are point and shoot slice-ish and flattish accurate if not with samurai sword topspin. but its easy to get a good body serve in with these. big serve returns i find a challenge though but in rallies you can drill a good solid deep shot. but its probably best against a modern racket to use the mass to redirect and approach.

What are your racket's specs?

a couple of max I’m using are strung at 15kg (so now probably 12-13kg) one with Mayami big spin and the other with hex something. The others are strung at 17kg. The 15kg frames are better. There seems to be something magic happening at that tension. The frames make a kind of resonance crack sound which I’ve only ever heard before on a Yamaha secret 04. Also kind of felt it (but not heard it) on a Fischer / pacific pro 1. The rackets aren’t cracked :-D But try it at that tension you’ll be amazed.
