Favorite String Under $10?

What's your favorite string(s) under $10?

I would have to go with:

Poly: Kirschbaum Super Smash Honey 17g*

Non-Poly: Prince Synthetic Gut with Duraflex 16g+

TripleB

*Although I'm getting ready to try Babolat Pro Hurricane and Signum Pro Poly Plasma in a hybrid which may dethrone the Kirschbaum.

+I'm also getting ready to try Yonex Tour Super 850 Pro Spin in a hybrid which may take the place of the Prince.

Is Yonex Tour 850 Pro Spin a poly? I've tried the Super Tour 850 Pro Soft...and I think it's a multi....awesome string, just wish it came in thinner gauges (or that it was even available anywhere)

I too am gonna try the Signum Plasma in a hybrid next, as well as Big Banger Ace 18. What are you using as crosses to comapre all of these? I've been using Gosen OG Sheep Micro 17 on the recommendation of many on this board, although gut crosses have felt the best to me, just too expensive. I'm hoping the Gosen will make the cut though....we'll see.

While you're trying polys, I'd say it's worth adding Klip K-Boom and Pro Hurricane 18 to your list, those are the two I'm testing right now. THe K-Boom is very similar to ALU Power but seems to hold tension better. The Hurricane 18 is ...well...a strange little beast...not sure how I feel about it yet...doesn't feel liek a poly really!

monologuist,

Yes, the Yonex is a multi and not a poly. I listed a "+" beside because it may replace the Prince Synthetic Gut as my favorite "Non-Poly" string.

I'm using Bow Brand Championship Natural Gut 15L because I purchased three sets of it before the price went up $7. I'll use it until it's gone and compare the polys using it as a cross. Once it's gone I'm looking at using either the Yonex, one of the LaserFibre, Technifibre X-One, or simply the Prince Synthetic Gut as a cross string. I tried a Gosen 16g in a cross with Luxilon Big Banger ALU Power 16L and it felt a little dead compared to the Prince Synthetic Gut w/duraflex with the Luxilon.

I've heard the Poly Plasma is like the Luxilon but a little softer and holds tension better. We'll see...I'm hoping it does because it's cheaper and I love the orange color.

POGO....to me the Super Smash and Luxilon play quite different. I (this is my opinion) seem to get more spin and a livlier response from the Super Smash. However I seem to get better control with the Luxilon. Durability goes with the Luxilon hands down. I think this and the control are the main reason I chose to go with the Luxilon string over the Kirschbaum. But I'm going to probably try the Kirschbaum in my RDX-500 Midplus just to see how well it plays.

I really like the Gosen OG Jim Courier Micro 16. Only $6.95AUS through TW and a nice, comfortable feel plus quite a lot of bite on the ball.

I have now put in my order for a POG O/S so that might change. Am looking for some good, inexpensive strings that would work well in the O/S as it'd be nice to stock up through TW and save the huge extra cost out here in Oz.

Definitely the PSG Duraflex 16 that is on my frame right now. I am loving the crisp feel I get with this. Only gripe I got against this string is that everytime I make contact with the ball it feels like the string is going to pop. Maybe it's because I only got it strung a week ago?

Triple B,

When you hybrid Poly/syn. gut, and you syn gut as x do you tension both main and x the same?

In the solid core syn gut category, I use a lot of PSGD 16g and OG Micro 16g. In multi's I string a lot of Alpha Gut 2K, Technifibre E-Matrix and Wilson Sensation in the $8 and under price range.

Guys, are there any of those favourite, sub-$10 strings that you'd especially recommend for a POG OS. Ive just ordered mine through TW and want to grab a number of packs of string from them as they're so much cheaper than buying here in Aus. So, if there was one or two in particular people think work well then I could stock up.

Best ones for the money, IMO, are PSG/D and E-matrix.

I've used a POG os for around 2-3 years. I used to use PSG/D 17 g. However, a local stringer recommended Gosen Mocro sheep syn gut 17. It plays about the same as the PSG/D but seems to last a little longer. I string it at around 60.

I have the opposite experience.

I only use multi's for shoulder preservation and for under $10.00 I'd go with:

1.Yonex 850 Tour spin
2.Technifire TRC
3.Sensation or Max Comfort (tie)

A great deal (5.90 I think) on a multi-filament. i don't like all multis b/c of tension loss but this one seems to be a good combination of tension maintenance / playability or at least i don't really mind when the tension starts decreasing.

My experience with Topspin Plus has been horrible. It doesn't stay in place at all and has horrible feel. I like Babolat Fibertour 16 (8 or 9 bucks) alot, it holds in place very well.

Guys, you need to try Gamma Live Wire Revelation. What a steal at $8...feels like Live Wire XP at 1/2 the price. Really great value in a string.

My vote for the best string under $10 in the POLY category has now changed from the Kirschbaum Super Smash Honey to the Signum Pro Poly Plasma!!!

jayserinos99...if you have tried both, what differences have you noticed (durability and playability) between the Prince Synthetic Gut 17g with Duraflex and without Duraflex?

no question - alpha gut 2k. great playability, good durability, and pretty decent tension maintenance (plus, unlike a lot of other strings, i like it thoughout its tension range).
