Fed sick?

Does he look abnormally thin or not? Also totally drained.

Need not be mono, could be anaemia or some deficiency. I remember Henman suffered from all kinds of fatigue problems and finally it was diagnosed as magnesium deficiency. He was very angry with the ATP for not allowing supplements unless it is sanctioned by them. I think they have rectified the situation since then.

lol @ fans not being able to accept that Fed gets beaten by the person on the opposite side of the net without him being ill!!

No commentator mentioned him looking ill, the interviewer didn't and he was probably 5 feet away from him, Federer himself didn't mention being ill....so please explain to us how you can tell ANYTHING from a still picture??

Why don't you guys keep an open mind?

Nobody thought Henman had any problem, including Henman.

Nalby had a mystery illness which has only now been identified.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was getting ready to rant then, damn you Suresh you got me!!

Rubbish. Pure rubbish. So every time a player loses he or she has to have mono, be sick, had eaten bad chicken the night before, etc? My goodness, give credit to a little bloke that just won a title last week that is in good form. Roger's biggest mistake is not playing often.

His excuse of "He caught me cold" (which I interpret as he had not played in a while) is his own darn fault. Others chose to play to get ready for a Masters event. If Roger gets gets caught with his pants down because he never plays any more to stay on top--time for him to get a wake up call and realize that his game plan has failed him all year.

Yes, he had mono earlier this year--but it is almost August.

STOP WITH THE EXCUSES.

Well, I ranted because someone is itching to blame this lack of good form from Roger on something rather than good play by others.:)

Just glanced at another thread and someone thinks Federer's irritability in the Toronto interview is a sign of onset of depression. Sometimes it is simply due to nutritional deficiency.

Fed is caught in the trap of his gentlemanly image. If this was Serena, she would have declared "knee problems" and dropped off the face of the earth, then surfacing one day and beating everybody. Fed needs to wise up a little in this regard.

He's suffering from mental melaise and a crisis of confidence. He hit more unforced errors in three sets against Simon than he usually would in a month of playing.
His career up until recently has been a constant arc of amazing success. Now he has hit his wall and he's having to scratch and claw for Slams.
He needs either a very good sports shrink or a title in New York but judging from his match against Simon, that is out of the question right now.

Before posting a new thread on the same topic, one needs to ask oneself "am I being annoying?" If the answer if yes, please refrain from knowingly annoying us all with this mindless anti-fed crap. There are literally hundreds of threads from the last year alone that all say the exact same thing.

Maybe somehow they seem more relevant this year than last (unless you consider nothing has changed for Fed since last year)

Have things changed for Fed? Yes. Have the relevancy of the issues within these threads changed? Nope. I could see a thread or two to discuss these changes, but a half dozen threads every single day questioning his health, his skill, calling for his retirement, etc., etc., etc., are trollish.

These are from the first page alone...I see no reason they couldn't all be condensed. Posters don't win a prize for creating the most threads about the same topic. :)

Nadal, Fed, and Djokovic are tennis right now. If people don't talk about these three in light of the three way competition that's going on, the decline in Fed's game, the improvement in Nadal's game, and the wondering how Novak will handle the pressure, there really wouldn't be a need for the board.

Although I understand where you're coming from, this is the purpose of the board.

I'm a real big Fed fan, but please stop trying to excuse his losses cuz of mono! He admitted he had it, but he feels fine now, so why these speculations?
He'll pick up his game soon!

Federer is fine, he just played very badly and deserved the loss, and I'm a Federer fan. If he doesn't do some big decision about his career than I truly think those "bad days" will continue.

Do you know anything about Mono? An tough case of it would sideline most for 6 months and up to a year.

And YES, relapses are very common, especially where you don't stop and get the proper rest and recovery, which clearly Fed did not while he chased points to try and maintain #1. To his credit, Fed does "not" seem to use it as an excuse. If it is like my case, he will not fully understand how much and how long it affected him until he has full recovery in more than a year.

So the point is, that his illness this year, is a very reasonable question to pose,
especially if as you watch him, you don't see that spark and flow to his movement that was there before.

Funny thing is that we will probably never know, especially if he doesn't recover his form to previous levels.
