Final score Fed 7-6, 7-5 Thanks god this is over. Now, Baghdatis needs to go to practice his serve and Fed will have to pay back the people at the stadium

Almagro is playing really well, beat Ljubicic and Nieminen in straights. I know he has choked before against Federer but if Federer plays like this he has a chance.

So does that mean that Baggy prevailed because he didn't let Fed tank the match? Uhmm, way to go Baggy?

a few things about this match...1.i think federer is still working on his volleys and other things...it was more of a practice match for him...2. the camera men gawking at the hot women lol and then commentators talking about hot, sticky weather and giggling...then saying something about hot and sticky while looking at mirka 3. the butterfly lol yea it wasnt a good match but glad fed pulled it out

I guess Federer was so pissed of at Bags DF's and UE's that he gave up on tanking and just thought: "It's hot, I'm tired and my opponent refuses to win so I just win in 2 sets and take the free points. I'll try tanking again tomorrow. Maybe Almagro actually wants to win a match against me." :p

I guess according to the Annointed One Federer should really be ashamed of himself now for winning.

Bagdati's real problem is not his serve. Is his psychology. He was self-destructed in the first set. He will never be among the top 5 because he has not got the guts. Djoker does not really strike the ball better. But he believes in himself. That's all.

Yep. That makes sense. :D

Can the weather have such an impact on the tennis? These two guys made Roddick look good, and it's not very easy to look good losing to Ferrer on your best surface.

Can the weather have such an impact on the tennis?

the weather in cincinnati can be quite a shock to the system to the players. montreal was very cool, so fed may not be used to this weather yet.

indy & dc are similarly brutal, but most top players skipped them.

cincy does have a history of bad maches by top players over the years, & weather is the primary reason.

I only caught the last two games, but those looked like awful conditions to play under. It's really difficult to summon the energy to play when you're drenched in sweat (not because you're playing hard, but because it's so humid) and the sun is beating down on you, baking you slowly. Not to mention the conspiracy theory that Fed's tanking matches (which absolutely makes sense if your priority is the US Open); that all adds up to a poor performance. If Fed can win this tourney playing like that, great. If not, then at least he'll get more rest. This is one of those few occasions throughout the year where losing early is probably a good thing.

I went to cincy yesterday and although they were not brutal it was close. but today I heard it was worst. I moved from East coast to the mid west and believe me, its extremely difficult to play good tennis in a very humid weather.

That was horrible. Please let the quality of play get better. I havent seen lame, uninspired tennis like that since...uh, I guess Fed's effort vs Djokovic last wk...

What I would find quite funny is if there would be an ironic title on a tennis webpage like

"Federer blasts past Baghdatis in a stunning match"

:D

if Badgdatis couldnt win that match with fed playing utter nonsense then i cant see him being a consistent top 10 player.

I was sitting on the eighth row up from the court, and it felt like a sauna on that court. It was unbearable, i was sweating like crazy. I am an Indonesian, so I should be okay with this weather, but I left after Fed won the first set. Yes the match was slightly boring filled with errors, DFs, service winners, or aces. I did saw Fed pump his fist after he won the first set. I think the heat causes the level of play to go down drastically.

Considering Nadal and Nole are out and that the weather is not the most ideal, I think Roger wants to bail out, get some rest and get ready for the US Open. I wouldn't be surprised if he won't win Cinci.

what a pathetic match !!Baggy outplaying federer ,but at the same time also outchocking him .
Thank god i stopped watching the match after the first set ,Baggy needs to realize he is talented enough but mentally he is still a midget at the moment .If he was a mental gaint he would have schooled federer today but thats the department he needs to work a lot in the future if he has any plans to be a threat to the top players at the slams and masters series event in the future .;)

If you dont beat Fed the way he played today - you can NEVER ever even come close to beating him - Baggy, you pulled the ultimate choke!

The quality of match between Fed- Benneteau was 100x better and Fed pulled off some great shots. So, going by that, one would have to blame heat for the quality of tennis!

Baghdatis was brutally honest in his accessment:

http://sports.yahoo.com/ten/news;_y...F?slug=ap-cincinnatimasters&prov=ap&type=lgns

"Basically, I gave the first set away," said Baghdatis, who helped Federer fight off two set points with a double-fault. Federer then won the tiebreaker, winning the first and last points with aces.

"I couldn't imagine losing the first set, but I did," Baghdatis said. "Basically, he won the first set because of his name -- Federer. I can say that because I choked."

Well.........

Yeah the match wasn't that well played, but have any of you tried to play a good match with the air temp of 99deg and the court radiating at 106deg in 90% humidity???

I have only tried to do that a couple of times and I could not move my legs after the first 20 minutes. These were brutal conditions for good tennis, don't care who you are (if you are human ;) )
