Federer reveals locker-room advice to 'crushed' Zverev

These are some kind words from Roger. But really? he's really cheapened everything he said now by sharing it with the god damn media. If he really cared about Zverev he would have kept their conversation private or instead let Zverev speak out about what Roger said. That would have been more heart-warming. Unfortunately, Roger is too concerned about making himself look good.

You're being harsh here. One, Roger was specifically asked what advice he gave Zverev since Z had specifically told to the media that Federer's words made it feel better. No.2, Federer feels more strongly about this because he knows EXACTLY what Z is going through. The very same questions and doubts were raised about Federer when he was 21 and underachieving massively, much like Z himself. Federer knows what it's like to be in that tough spot, what pressure of expectations can do and how to manage the pressure and live up to it. So probably, Federer empathizes a lot more with Z than usual. He sees a lot of himself in Z(Not Game wise). And since Federer felt so strongly about this, he chose to talk about it, telling Z and other youngsters that its okay to take your time and figure things out.

He always has time for the other players. He keeps a close eye on the tour - perhaps to know his competition as well as possible - but he's always nice about it.

A credit to the sport. And that's all that really needs to be said.

Shapovalov is the real future of Tennis.

I agree, I'm not as sold on Z as I once was. Especially after watching El Shapo hit a leaping one-hand BH winner against Tsonga, that was one of the best shots I've ever seen and it looked so effortless.

Did Fed give advice / pep talk to Zed ? Yes
Did Fed voluntarily tell press that he gave advice ?? No

What is your problem ?

It's absolutely weird seeing how consumed grown men are with hating an athlete who doesn't know they exist. These guys keep tabs on Federer and there isn't anything that Federer does that these guys don't dissect and think about ways to criticize. Without fail. Obsession is the key word here.

Just weird.

Chung earned the win, doesn't deserve to be snubbed by The Great One. This revealing to the reporter business is meant to be a calculated public show of support for Z. The Great One never mentions Chung.

Z isn't a baby. Doesn't need a babysitter.

Oh and Connors at 39/40 or so was once asked if he ever went up to one of these young guys and went "now look here young man...." he said he never did that. You have to work it out on your own.

Disappointed but somehow not surprised. That's about it.

Z plays like a baby that’s the point

for all the talk about how federer is arrogant and only loves himself, which yes as a top player he can be arrogant, he genuinely loves tennis and seems to genuinely want the young guys to come to the top. some of his fans might think he is above the game, but he has never acted like it imo.

Poor Zverev, does he need nap time and a blankie-poo too? Maybe he can learn to play with the big boys next time, meow!

Classy Federer as usual. That’s why he always win the ATP Fan Favorite award.
One does not tell the world about it...unless one wants the world to know about it.

One day you may understand the difference between 'understand' and 'grandstand'
