Fischer Pro Number 1 Initial Impressions....

I had a chance to play with (for a little over an hour) a friend of mines Fischer Pro Number 1 last night and thought I'd post my initial thoughts:

- the Pro #1 swings heavier than its 311 listed swingweight

- it is a great serving racquet....good pop and excellent placement

- the spin potential I was hoping for just wasn't there - I was thinking that with the 16x20 string pattern it would give me spin like my Prince db800 {which I played with right before the Fischer} which also has the 16x20 string pattern - nowhere close

- I seemed to find the frame a lot with this racquet when hitting heavy topspin

- I felt like I had good power but when I switched back to my POG mid it seemed to have twice as much power as the Fischer  Not sure if it does in fact have more power or if it was just the way both were strung

- the handle seemed strange to me...as others have mentioned...it didn't seem to have a big enough butt...made flinging that extreme topspin forehand on the run shot a little more difficult

- pretty good at net, nothing outstanding but I've never been outstanding at net

- decent slice...seemed to set up a bit but that's better than going into the net like was happening with my db800

Overall a good racquet...Is there any chance it could replace my POG mid - NO WAY.

However, I'm glad I had a chance to hit with it. At least I don't have to worry about ordering that demo (saves me a spot) and the guy said I could hit with it (and borrow it) any time I want to.

Just thought I pass on my impressions. If I choose to borrow it and play more with it I'll post a more extensive review.

PS: I'll be ordering the Diablo Midplus, Volkl Tour 10 V-Engine, Yonex RDX500 Midplus, and then either the LM Prestige or the Diablo Mid.

My first impressions...

I have justed switched to the fischer pro #1, from several years playing with head ti.radicals.

First let me clear the only reason I switched is that I could not find the old radical in Europe anymore and I broke my last one. I didn't go with the liquid metal version (witch I demoed and liked) just because of the high price (200€ = 240$ approximately) asked in Portugal. Since I wanted to buy at least 2 that would mean 500$ including string for the 2.

Since the team I play for is sponsered by Fischer, the obvious choice was to test the pro ones (normal and ft), taht are the most similar rackets from fischer compared to the radicals.

Actually I tried the ft version first and didn't like it for a couple of reasons: first it is too harsh, it just doesn't feel solid enough, and second when hitting an opponent's heavy ball, it lacks the 'pop'.

So I tried the normal version:

It feels a lot different from the ft. Is more solid, altough not as solid as the radical. But the extra feeling of the ball you get in trade is very very good.

Switching from a 18/20 to a 16/18 string pattern allows me to put a lot(!) more spin into the ball, altough I have to it it harder to keep going deep.

Volleys were ok. The stick is very manuverable, altough a litttle extra weight would have helped it's stability.

Serving was excellent. After 15-20 serves I was banging and kicking the ball like never before. And with greater accuracy too.

The only strokes I still can not find are my backhand (single handed) topspin, and the serve response. But it's just probably the need to adapt them to the new racquet.

In resume, if you are looking for great spin ability, feel and control this is a racket I would reccomend.

BTW I had both my radical and the fischer strung exacly the same at 24kg, with a polyester 16L gauge string from lexilon.

I am a 4.5 23 year old all around agressive player, with a week left hander and a very strong attacking right.
