Flex/headsize/Weight

Didn’t know if I should post in this forum or the classic subforum…(maybe this subforum isn’t such a good idea) anyway back on topic,,….

I really think weight/flexibility/headsize are so related… there is a balance of weight and flexibility and head size that makes the racquet feels just right… too much flex and too little weight and you get a noodle… with the perfect weight/flex balance… u get a wonderful feeling stick.. with a larger head size… flex needs to be balanced with the right weight…flex/weight will also be influened with a smaller headsize…

For example… if I have a racquet that has a flex of 50 and a headsize of 100…. Then the racquet weight will need to be in the high 300’s (maybe even over 400g) for the racquet to feel right… for example… the Mizuno that TW was selling in the Bosworth section-Mizuno Pro MS-21 (Lendl’s supposed racquet he was playtesting

I agree with you that all of these aspects are of equal importance - if one is out of kilter, it just doesn't "feel" right. Then again, for the most part I haven't tested a stick in the last couple of years that has been "obviously wrong" to me. Not that I test a large number of sticks...

ya.. most current sticks have it figured out...but some of the older ones (thats why i was unsure of wat forum to post in) had that problem

That balance is sometimes a little off because of the relatively progressing and R&D that was going into making some sticks (especially that era from midsize to midplus era) some 100 sq in racquet from that era were to flexy stock and were a bit flimsy needing some extra weight added... as has been my experience....even some racquets today could benefit with a little lead in the head.. the lighter 320 g Fischer pro one comes to mind....

even the 6.0 85.... many people enjoy that sitck better with a bit of lead at the 3 and 9 ala sampras depending on what kind of game you play...
