Head YT IG Speed 300 - an open patterned Radical?

Looking back on my demo impressions of some racquets around 11 ounces, I had a lot over favorable things to say about the Head MicroGel Radical Midplus. One thing that concerned me was the 18 mains and if I could still get the spin I'm accustomed to with the 16 mains racquets I typically play with.

In looking at the specs it seems that the Head YouTek IG Speed 300 has almost identical specs to the MG Radical Midplus but with the 16 mains instead of 18.

Has anyone played with both of these and if so does the YT IG Speed 300 play similar to the MG Radical Midplus?

Thanks.

I hit with the 300 for a couple of days for coaching and light hitting. I found it was really quite comfy and hit a fair amount of spin. The biggest difference was the balance however. I found the MG Rad to feel a bit more HL, while the 300 felt a bit more HH. This should/can be attributed to tolerances at the factory. Also, the 300 felt a little bit "crisper" than the MGR. :)

Thanks for the input.

Did you find a substantial increase in the spin potential of the 300 over the Radical?

I typically like more headlight racquets so the 300 might not be to my liking...really gotta have that 'whipability'.

Nawh, not really. String pattern means nothing to me tbh, I don't notice more spin one way or the other. I put a lot of "work" on the ball regardless of the pattern so it's usually a non issue for me. I just prefer more open patterns for comfort reasons, as I can string them tighter and not have it bother my arm. With dense patterns I have to string lower for the same level of comfort. :)

I felt it was considerably (realtively speaking) different to a Rad.

The most noticeable difference was the small sweetspot.

It's quite low powered and what it has of that is concentrated high up in the stringbed.

Yes there are some similarities to the microgel - both light and unforgiving so I found myself going all out with both.

I agree w/ Fuji about the balance and the crispness.

But spin you asked about spin. If you can consistently get the middle of the 300 then yes IIRC the 300 has some more spin, not a lot, but yes more. Just more of that ripping dipping spin.

The Speed 300 volleys beautifully...

Which actually might confirm the fact that it gets a bit more work on the ball. Slice similarly was more positive.

With both racquets I did not persist simply because I needed more power....

For anyone who has tried the new Instinct...what are your thoughts on it?

Thanks for all the input so far.
