Lew II is actually doing a spoof of troll Lew that spoofed tennis message boards and had never actually watched a game of tennis and he does it well.

Beatiful tennis and potential to be the greatest, but no I don't think he's among the best players ever seen.

I'll just have to take you at your word Lew. Any discussion on the greatest tennis players that includes Nishikori and not Laver, or indeed Hoad, is quite a novel one. Marks for keeping things interesting around here.

Mac was a mediocre athelte and Ferrer is very underrated.

2013 Ferrer vs 1984 McEnroe I don't know who would win.

Yeah but you judge people on peers and their time. Hence Novak with 14 slams should be judged by modern standards and achievements of peers so is still only a top 200 player all time and far less than even the likes of mcenroe and even Safin

e.g. running 11 seconds 100 metres now is nothing but in the past would be olympic winning

Greatest players are the most important for the game (Laver, Tilden are in it)
Best players are those who played at the highest level (Laver, Tilden are not in it)

What you're talking about is greatness. Yes, greatness is winning over your peers.

I was talking about the players who performed at the highest level.

Yeah thats what I mean. Ferrer level of play or even any random mug would be higher than Laver because Laver is decades ago. However Ferrer is not greater than Laver as Ferrer is a mug by his peers standards.

Similarly Novak is a tier 4 ATG and inferior to the likes of even Safin

This is awesome stuff here.

Ferrer definitely beats Stan, Connors, McEnroe, Laver, Pancho, and Courier. Ferrer is just a hair behind Edberg. Yep, that makes complete sense.

If humans have progressed so much where Ferrer completely destroys McEnroe, then really, we probably get somebody like Camila Giorgi blasting peak Lendl off of the courts. But knowing some posters here, Lendl right now at age 58 is at his peak.

It’s a nice sounding premise.

Unfortunately the logic doesn’t work because the greatest and best don’t compete in the same environment.

Today’s Djokovic will not be competing three decades from now when technology, money, kinesiology and almost certainly prize money, will all be quite different from today.
