I hate Alcaraz's Ugly Topspin

Carlos took care of business today. He did what he needed to do to win. His topspin beat Sinner.

The swing off the forehand and backhand that generates that kinda topspin looks so ugly that I have troubles wanting to watch the match. You guys can throw my thread and me under the bus (especially the Rafa fans). But think about the tennis that we see these days; Djokovic robotic baseline game, Medvedev substandard octopus forehands and backhands and now Alcaraz racket trajectory of his swings over his head as if he were a construction worker throwing concrete on the wall.

I miss Federer and Sampras very much.

It's feels like only recently (since Cincinnati) that Alcaraz has slightly changed his FH to be more as you described.

Federer is retired player. You can watch his matches on youtube. Not live. So ofcourse if you will only watch live matches you will miss federer.
Sampras is 52 year old guy. Alcaraz's parents are probably younger than Pete Sampras. He is that old.

It is what it is.

Old youtube for the nostalgia.

He has more winners than Jannik off that wing iirc.

I'd rather him win doing what he normally doesn't do -- high topspin reset -- than ball bash and lose
I'm happy for either of these guys to win. I want to watch them pushing limits, not just do anything to beat the other guy. These two are special. If any of them became the ordinary men on tour, I'll lose interest.

Indian wells and clay suit top spin. Alcaraz was playing brainless tennis to start. Alcaraz at his best his way better than sinner as he has much more options.

I wonder whether Alcaraz’s parents are younger than Sampras. Does anyone have information? It wouldn’t surprise me if they were older than him. In European middle-class circles, many/most parents are 30+ when their children are born. Alcaraz has three siblings. I don’t know which number he is in the birth order. If he is the youngest, I would be very surprised indeed if his father is younger than Sampras. If the oldest, it’s more likely.

Edit: I believe his father is a former player born in 1969, and about 20 months OLDER than Sampras.

Do we have proof that his father is not, in fact, Sampras?

Has there ever been a player more hated on TalkTennis than Alcaraz?
When the most robotic player Sinner has just been taken to the cleaners by the ultra-creative Alcaraz, and you make a thread critiquing Alcaraz's style?

It looks like crap, yes. When Federer did it it was very unfedererlike.

Those high loopy topspin forehands helped Alcaraz win the Wimbledon Final and yesterdays match against Sinner. It lets Carlos dictate pace and change rhythm at his will.

The point is that his top spins are more forced and pushed, rather than clean and full punch swings?!

He has quite a strange manner, namely he holds the forehand for a long time, especially during top spin, and finally swings.

Comparing Sinner forehand top spin, he plays very smoothly, while Alacaraz waits too long to hit and suddenly hits at the end.

This shovel-throw forehand has been used by many people, only Alacaraz and Nadal do it frequently, and it may actually spoil the opponent's game, but it doesn't look very nice...

For me, Alcaraz is Nadal, Sampras, Djokovic, Federer, he has such a style that he has a bit of everyone in his game.

Spanish players play smart tennis, they use moves that allow them to keep the ball, and that's what Carlos does.!!

Sounds like the same crap we've heard about Rafa his entire career, simply because he stood up and beat Federer when no one else did. The stuff Fed fans would say about Rafa back then was horribly xenophobic and elitist. This isn't much different.

I only got to see this on Youtube highlights. The way people talk Carlos is throwing up moonballs and pushing...
I see aggressive shots hit w/ topspin. Compared to his previous match vs. Shelton, I don't see a big difference... does someone have statistics or examples to show the difference in tactics?

I suppose looking at it live, it may be more obvious.

I meant no "xenophobic" message here. Moon balls, to me, are embarrassing on the top of tennis world. But if they aren't to you, so be it.

You get the best of both worlds with Alcaraz, high net clearance cross-court forehand shots, which oftentimes sets up the flat 90 mph plus bullets, great to watch.

We've been watching Rafa for 20 years, everyone should be desensitized to the windshield technique by now ;)
Except Ned was more or less in position for every ball, and purposefully did the windshield to impart extra spin. As a result, it looked much better. Alcaraz, due to his swing length and footwork, uses the windshield to make up for his lack of position as it allows you to catch the ball later(similar to when old Fed used to do it). And that's very very ugly indeed. The main difference is the balance.
