Insoles are key

I have come to the conclusion for older players or those with foot problems, insoles are one of the most important parts of the shoe. Almost any tennis shoe can be made more comfortable, get better arch and heel support with aftermarket insoles. If you have $100 to spend on shoes, you are much better off spending $70 on the shoes and getting $30 Superfeet or other high end insoles rather than getting a pair of $100 shoes. The standard insoles on tennis shoes even the high end ones are pretty cheap, thin and provide minimal extra support and cushioning.

^ Even with high end shoes, replacing the insoles with better aftermarket insoles (e.g. Superfeet) is a good idea, but make sure you get your foot evaluated correctly and find the proper insole to avoid making things worse.

True you have to get the correct foot type. For me it was pretty easy. I have flat arches and I overpronate. I didn't need a podiatrist to tell me that. :)
