Is Nadal about to get Soderling'd again?

Thiem is mentally absent after a big win, just like he was in Rome. Won't be so lucky against Stan "3-0 in Slam Finals" Wawrinka.

Sunday is likely to be the hottest day of the tournament at 86 degrees. This massively favors Nadal and means that match is also likely to be a straight-sets demolition. It is possible to want Nadal to lose and still recognize that he is almost certain to win.

I hope you're right.

See? The Nadal clinic was NID. ;) Don't listen to half these idiots on this forum.

He was certain to win before the AO 2014 final. The Soderling effect doesn't care about odds.

Does refusing to accept the probability of a Nadal win in advance help you to cushion the disappointment of it when it happens? For me, at least, it is the other way around: when I think Nadal is going to lose, I get even more disappointed than otherwise if he ends up winning.

Anyway, it'll be something like 18-7 on Sunday. Similar to today. Perhaps Wawrinka can do marginally better, but probably not by much.

An idea that escapes many, unfortunately. I actually wouldn't mind/don't care if Nadal wins on Sunday, but like you say, I have wanted Nadal to lose many a match over his career only to be resigned to the fact that he's very likely to win. So what's the point in getting so worked up over it? There is none. It's only tennis. If you want to troll, fine, but there's an extremely high likelihood you'll look like a complete idiot when all is said and done.

Right - and it's also possible to want Nadal to win (why someone would want that, I don't know, but some people seem to have bad taste) and still think he will lose. Basically, the OP is perpetually confusing desire and belief: they are different things and must be treated as such.

LOL, just give it a rest. You are wrong all the time!

I never said Thiem would win. I just suggested it was possible. In Nadal's 2 RG matches with Soderling, he lost once and, the other time, he won in straight sets. Today was a coin flip that unfortunately landed on the wrong side.

But Stan is the player I picked to win the tournament before Geneva even.

Stan isn't winning sh*t! Nadal's got this.

Back at the 2014 Australian Open, Nadal was gunning for the double career grand slam. After Stan knocked out Novak in the quarterfinals, Nadal and his fans had already began celebrating. But, in the final, Stan showed us something we had seen before. Nadal has no answer for a zoning big hitter. Soderling did it back at the 2009 French Open. Del Potro did it a few months later at the US Open. Rosol did it at Wimbledon. And countless others have done it since.

This year, he is gunning for "La Decima." With Novak out of order and the young generation yet to really hit their stride, it feels like de ja vu as the stars have aligned for Nadal to complete another milestone.

But tomorrow he is playing Thiem and a rematch with Stan likely awaits him in the final. If either opponent plays his best tennis, there's nothing Nadal can do.

With two chances to get blown out in the final 2 rounds of the French Open, are we likely to see Nadal fall flat on his face yet again?

Just some food for thought. Before Stan's masterful performance against Novak in the RG 2015 final, he had a pretty lackluster performance against Tsonga in the SF.

It was a razor close match that was decided by a couple points.

Wawrinka - Tsonga
Total points: 155 - 149
Break points: 3/15 - 1/17 (Yes, Tsonga went 1/17 on break points)
Receiving points: 33% - 32%

Reverse the break point conversion and Tsonga wins in 4 instead of losing in 4.

His match with Berdych before the AO 2014 F was also razor close (143 - 142 points won).

Stanimal only shows up for slam finals. But he always shows up for slam finals.

We all know how lucky soderling was and why that happened.....it won't be happening here.
soderling got a gift

Fixed that . . . or maybe you should begin by saying "TUE bad". . . .

The girl in this video is now a 27 year old morbidly obese mother of 6 living in Minnetonka, WY, spending most of her days laying in the couch watching One Tree Hill reruns, and wondering where her charm went.

It kind of puts things in perspective.

You have to quit the moonshine boy.

One down, one to go.

Too bad Soderling had to retire, he was a great clay court player ( similar to the fate of Kuerten )

He has a chance, certainly. But the matchup with Nadal on clay is not as favorable for him as is the matchup with Djokovic on either clay or hard. Not by a long shot.

Yes. He was injured during the AO 2014 F with Stan. Just like he was injured during the 2009 RG match with Soderling. Just like he was injured during the match with Del Potro. And Rosol. And, if he loses to Thiem or Stan, he will have been injured during that match too. We know.
I'm not saying those weren't real injuries, but he might get injured before tomorrow. Remember when he cut his hand slicing bread and the other time he burned hs fingers on a hot plate? He looks great right now, but there is still time to get injured.

Right-o. Thiem got wrecked, it would seem. Bit of a tradition for him now in RG semis.

Thiem got the last bubble in OP's strip but there's still a chance for a nuclear 1HBH to get the final say.

Stan has the game to beat Nadal. The same game Soderling had but 10x better. Has Magnus on his side whom was there for Soderling when he beat Ralph.

And he's 3-0 in slam finals, once against Nadal.

If there's any guy right now that can take this task of dethroning Rafa at RG it's Grand Stan.

Last time they met at RG was 2013. That year, stan almost beat Djokovic at the AO. That was the birth of the Stanimal basically. This is what happened at RG, at stan's favorite surface:
