Is This Nadal Come back same as his 2013 Come back?

In 2013, he lost a final to a motivated opponent and then went on to win 3 titles before he finally lost to Novak in Monte Carlo.

Is this come back going to be the same or are there differences?

So far he has a much slower start than the 2013 come back. I guess he shouldn't have played the AO.

I don't think you need to fret as much as you fear.

Maybe we'll be wiser on the subject after IW/Miami

I hope its not.. That Nadal burned out fast.

Id rather see THIS Nadal have a good long successful season on various surfaces and have another 2-3 slams under his belt by next summer

Very unlikely. Before 2013, he has not had a bad clay season like 2014 (compared to the previous ones when he owned real bad the competition). Let's see but I guess it is all in his confidence

Tennis is so predictable in many ways. I dont think it would be another 2013 year for Nadal, more likely another 2014. And 2016 would be another 2015, lol.

I wonder. I feel pretty excited about the prospect.
Not a given but not completely impossible either.

This one is different from previous ones.

It's been almost always about his knees. I think this time is about his lower back with which he struggled most of 2014. It has been most notable in his serving performances but
I think it affected his whole game.

He had a few unfortunate injuries during later half of 2014 (and thus lack of matches) but the main uncertainty
is about about his lower back, IMHO.

Anyone who truly loves watching great tennis would want him back playing his best. Also Del Potto and Tsonga. The sport is richer with the top players at their best.

After 2009 Australia, so many counted Roger done and dusted.

After 2009 French, so many counted Rafa broken for good.

After 2012 and seven months out, so many said it was now the Nole Murray era.

After 2013, with Federer threatening to drop out of the Top 10, many thought he should retire for fear of him tarnishing his legacy.

They were all short sighted and completely wrong.

Great champions surprise us mere mortals. It is what makes them great.

Vamos Rafa no matter what.

One difference is that he loses after winning the first set.

It seems like he gets tired sooner, and he said so in one interview.

Seems like that's the trend with aging, but quite interestingly Rodge has had the opposite trend. Quite frequently in past couple of years, he won after dropping the first set.

Yeah.. but the decline is inevitable.

Rodge lost the SF streak, then the QF streak, then he lost to players he never lost to before, Cilic, Seppi...
So did Rafa...

his decline in movement is obvious.

I don't see any dramatic decline in movement.

His groundies are bit off timing (understandable due to lack of matches).

To me, the most notable is the quality of his serving. I don't think his lower back injury is a trivial matter.

But I saw his best serving in last 1 year or so at the argentina open 2 weeks ago.
I think it's coming back and I expect better results at IW.

he looked so slow against berdych.. not even trying to move to his forehand wing...so many points lost. watching balls pass him.. given his injuries were to his wrist..you'd think his legs would be fine.. so the back must really be more threatening than the knees were to his attack and first step. could be a struggle at the french..which would be awful... i really want him to get this win to put him in an untouchable level of accomplishment.

He looked awful the whole AO. It's nice that he gained points. Other than that, I wish he hadn't played it at all.

More than his actual movement, it's his anticipation or lack of it that makes him look slower than he actually is IMO. I think that can improve as he plays more and more matches.

I think he lacks a bit more confidence than 2013 probably due to him realizing he's getting old. His age also shows on court. It's still difficult to see how good he is at this stage, but he will be a force to be reckoned with in 2015. We'll have a better picture about his career map at the end of this year. Right now, everything is just hypothetical.

Wait and See.... But, in 2013, Nadal was on the passion tour. He had the same line at each tournament.

It's too early in 2015 for us to tell. Looks like Nadal isn't planning on peaking too early though.
