He is past his best. So, when people beat him they think they beat a legend giving them fake confidence. Because it's easier to beat Fed these days. So, they come in the next match overconfident and lose.
The guy is something like 25-4 this year with losses to Nadal, Djokovic, Hewitt and Nishikori. It's hardly as if every punk is knocking him off and walking away with a puffed out chest.
My point that people might think they beat peak Fed and act overconfident the next round and lose. To make them think they were playing a better match they actually did. Since Fed's level is not that high. And they get a bit delusional and it works against them in the next round.
I see a lot last years when people beat Fed, they lose in the next round.
But when Fed was peak, people won the tournament beating him. Maybe it was similar with Fed vs Sampras W 2001.
Federer is essentially hanging around and getting embarrassed in every tournament so he can boost every low level player's confidence so they can beat Nadal later.

Haha, something like that. Although my point was the opposite. That it actually works against those players, making them overconfident and playing worse in the next round. Or drains them mentally.
Yeah, hit with him in Dubai recently and the best I could do was getting to a tiebreaker. In the other one break of serve was enough for him.
So I wouldn't underestimate his current form.
