Thiem

Thiem
Federer ( :( :( )
Medvedev
Thiem

Only 1 NextGen has made final, and if you really want to count Thiem as next winner potential, that's only 4.
Semi final count isn't that good either.
So yeah, there's a very good chance that every "next" or young player will be kicked out before the final, either by huge servers like Isner-Opelka-Raonic or journeymen pushers.

I think that six of the Cincinnati quarterfinalists have a good chance to be semi finalists at the USO considering the fast courts - Djokovic, Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Raonic, Opelka and Batista-Agut. Zverev, Thiem, Anderson and Isner probably are in the next group with a decent chance to make the USO quarterfinals. I’ll be surprised if any of the semi finalists are from outside this group.

7 of the 10 guys I listed are really tall with big serves while Djokovic and Batista-Agut can hit flatter shots on the rise on fast courts. Thiem is the only one not suited to fast courts I kept on the list as his baseline game is good enough to make the QFs. Dark horses are Wawrinka and Murray if they can turn the clocks back and set the time machine to five years back for a magical 2-week run.

That is easily possible, if not even likely.

I would have thought Thiem has a good chance, but this Masters tournament here shows the opposite.
Medvedev and Tsitsipas are inconsistent as hell.
And let’s once and for all stop acting as if Zverev could be relevant.

Wawrinka a dark horse? As in, he’s not playing USO so he’s beyond dark and into being a ghost.

I always thought they were bigger favorites for the USO title than Thiem but how come YOU have lost your faith in Thiem already?
Thanks, bro. I haven't lost it yet but his first round emphatic loss vs Krajinovic is worrying a bit. Let's hope he regroups quickly and has a great run in NYC.

2016 is very far away for the next gen
I think we should look at the victories since 2018 : 4 finals in GS (thx Thiem) - 4 victories & 8 finals in M1000 by players under 25
They are not next gen anymore I think. It's the présent génération even we know that Novak is still the boss.
Next gen : Shapo / FAA / De minaur / Keckmanovic / Sinner ... not so much hope for them now

With the new faster surface, big servers (Opelka and Raonic) will play big roles; so returning will be crucial. Among next gen, I think Medvedev is a pretty good returner. The surface is probably too fast for Thiem no matter what. How's Tsisipas as a returner?

I don't agree with including Zverev in any list of promising up and comers. The guy has just too many mental problems to iron out. It's a minor miracle if he makes it thru the two rounds.

FO 1984 Final ... who is the chiken ? We don't know when it will end and when Zverev will become a champion ...
I agree that I don't see him ready but ... can't forget him neither
