Anyone knows the best Japanese brands??

I was at a party last night and we went thru some drinks ( know what i mean ..:)...)
But recall this one nice hit of Japanese Whiskey on the rocks rather late into the binge that tasted HEAVENLY!!!

Recommend us a few brands and i think we can recall the name..

IMHO Japanese whiskeys try too hard to emulate scotch. I prefer the Indian whiskeys, which, even though also derived from the scot tradition, show a much more distinctive and thus, dare I say, authentic personality. Nevertheless, Japanese whiskeys are good and some of them could easily pass as high end scotch, which is not bad at all.

So sticking to topic, a superb one is Yamazaki 12 yrs. if you like single malted scotches cannot go wrong with this.

Best whiskey in the world on at least two occasions, if I am not mistaken. The ice is a crime against humanity, however. ;)

"Late into the binge" at a party might not be the best time/place to declare one whiskey brand as superior.

Nikka Whiskey?

I'll be very surprise if it's right because Nikka is just a mid-range product.

Nothing can beat Scot single malt whiskey.

Tonight I was in a small bar with an impressive whiskey battery and I wanted to try a Japanese example after reading this post. Some years ago I had tasted a Suntory whiskey, but I don't recall it being particularly scotch-like. Tonight I had a Yamazaki 12 and now I can totally see where Rubens is coming from regarding the similarities to scotch whisky. It had an incredibly clean palette and fine taste... for a scotch, but I didn't notice any unique characteristics that would suggest it was it's own distinct style. I could blind taste many scotch drinkers with the Yamazaki and have them guessing which Highland or Speyside producer they just drank.

Suntory was declared best single malt in the world, whether we agree or not. Personally, I'll take a Glenlivet any day. I am curious about the Suntory though.
