Likes and posts

For a very long time I did not even know there were likes in this forum, or what they meant. I don't even know exactly when the started. Have you guys noticed the balance for posters who have been here a long time, and those who joined recently? It seems to me that those of us who have been here longer all started out with a sort of deficit. If you had 2000, or 10,000 posts before the likes were added, you're catching up. ;)

I've been quietly watching my count, wonder if my likes will ever catch up to my post number!

Beyond this, which is very superficial, how much do the rest of you like this system? I'm in another forum where there are on likes, and I don't really care much, but there are no alerts, and the alerts are super important to me, the best feature maybe in this whole site because I know who is looking at what I'm involved in and is answering.

Believe me, "older people" couldn't a flying f--- about "likes" on a message board. That's all Gen Z, Gen X stuff or people addicted to social media. People who were adults before the Internet came along just don't care.

Likes came in with the new forum.

Maybe likes and post count are just a means to get people addicted to the forum. However, earlier we would reply with a "+1" or nice post. Now we can just click Like instead.

The one things I'd like is to see a list of posts with most likes, just so I can read them. Highest likes for the day, and all time list.

@Checkmate has earned 175 likes for his OP calling the Cecchinato upset of Joe Kovic at RG last year.

I think I have huge amount of likes in this forum. that mean I am loved by many people which is a good thing. Love conquers all and will save earth and humanity. Haters will have no place in the future.

Absolutely incorrect. I was born in 1965 and I take all this stuff very seriously! I can't stand a day without receiving any likes.

this is what's wrong with the world today, millenials and now older people ONLY caring about likes, subs, notifications, views and social media in general. It's ruining the world.
What's a sub? :)

(I don't do social media at all, zero time on Facebook, Twitter or anything like it...)

I understand not caring about likes. What I find invaluable is tracking whether or not people are interested in what I've written - or not. This is the thing that is missing in the music forum I'm in. I never know if someone has responded to what I've written. When I go there, I miss answers. For this and many other reasons I think this forum is pretty well organized.

i dont care about likes.
look at my avatar. i think I get 1\3 of likes what I would normally get because I creep people out with this face of mine.
I like likes but i sholdnt. At least I am honest.
When i will be old this will just be a number and earthly things will slowly fade away.
We all want to be loved, but is this the right place? Some would say, absolutely not, but I say - it depends - how much you care about this. Maybe we will scroll this forum at age 100 and wait for a new like.
The posts are just the balls we hit, and the likes are the winners?
I dont know.
Today I think a lot. If there would be dislikes and I would get 100 of them I coulndt care less.
In the end, this is me speaking.

Wait - I should take back the "like" I just gave you! :D

For the record, I have three grandkid,s 11, 13 and 15, quite obviously all Gen Z. I also teach piano, and most of my students - and the best ones - are Gen Z. I really like Gen Z. Gen X? Not so much!

What's your issue w/ Gen X, out of curiosity?

If it were a matter pretty faces, I would never get a like. ;)

If you are not getting likes because people don't like your face, I'd say that's pretty depressing, but I don't think it's so! It's more about the squeaky wheel getting the grease. Just look at @stringertom who is really squeaky and gets a lot of attention. ;)

None actually, except I mostly no longer teach them. In fact, there are few Gen X people I really like, but not too much as students. In general students who take up music tend to be really unfocused in their 20s, then start to change in their 30s. It's very scattered age to teach, then over 30 they start turning into parents of my Gen X kids. ;)

Interesting.

This is really food for thought. I'm wondering whether there are generational characteristics that define the appeal of various age groups. Broadly.

And I am aware of Tom Brokaw's take on that. :)

Your perspectives seem to be through the prism of teachability. It'd be interesting to develop a more catch-all breakdown.

Imo the dislike button should be introduced to this site. You have upvotes and downvotes in reddit, likes and dislikes in youtube and other sites.Having only like button is not the way to go imo.Either you have both like and dislike button or none of it.

This is Facebook Lite, no? I don't use that site anymore... but I'm pretty sure this software is patterned on that model.
