Monaco vs. Monfils, Men's Final

I'm not surprised to see Monaco in the final especially after he took out Davydenko. I am surprised to see Monfils in the final. These guys are 1 and 1 in head to head meetings with Monaco winning earlier this year in Estoril. Monaco should be a slight favorite but Monfils is looking really good with some nice wins this week.

I'm thinking that after amazing wins over Roddick and Hewitt, Monfils' confidence should be really high, enabling him to win or do very well in the final. If he wins that, he'll be a threat in RG.

Monfils looks like the type of player with the type of game that would thrive on hard courts or faster surfaces generally. He's super athletic and likes to hit very hard.

Regardless, his court positioning screams "clay." He likes to stand so far back and take big cuts. Obvious he grew up on clay and is most comfortable on that surface.

I still think his game plan is random and not reliant enough on point construction, but these results are encouraging.
