Multilingualism

Let's stop for a moment just to admire how much Đoković has grown in languages, also conpared to the big 3.

Nadal - native Spanish, barely got his English to passable, never went to any other length or attempted to learn anything else.

Federer - native Swiss German, picked up flawless German from young age, learned flawless English, picked up okayish-good French in high school years (when he was forced to, as his parents sent him to a French speaking school). However, after high school, he didn't bother learning any other language.

Đoković - native Serbian, learned flawless English, excellent Italian, good German, passable French, passable Spanish, still learning languages even in his 30s.

In terms of effort and breadth, Đoković is also the multilingualism GOAT.

Pretty sure Nadal speaks Italian well enough? Also a bit of French.

But yeah Novak is definitely the champion compared to Fed and Ned, it seems learning new languages is a hobby of his.

Nadal never spoke French in RG ceremonies afaik.

Do you have a video of him speaking Italian? That at least is super easy for Spanish people.

Origin has big influence with that.
Frenchies usually avoid learning other language, Russians, Americans, maybe even Spaniards. If your language is wide spread in the world you don't feel the need to learn another.
Otoh, small nations like Serbia although understanding Slavic, will still feel as a part of culture upgrading to know at least 1 foreign language, maybe 2. Novak raised that to another lvl mostly bcs of his profession and origin.

The Romance languages are very similar, and not very hard to master as the similarities are so many and they stem from Latin.

The Bromance language, however, is something Novak has masterfully developed to groom the young gen players before big matches :D

Medvedev's French accent is excellent, he speaks it like a native speaker. Novak still mispronounced some French words, for example when he wants to say "Je" he tends to say "J'ai".

Quite true for some Romance languages. Nadal learning Italian would be like Đoković learning Slovenian, not very difficult. Đoković learning so many Germanic and Romance languages while himself being Slavic is admirable.
