Another day in the office, eh @initialize?
I think Roger deserved a better exit is all. 4 first serves in 2019 would have solved this dilemma. His knee literally gave out in the match lol. And yeah obviously rankings aren't relevant to you, because looking at rankings wouldn't make Fed look terrible.
Every player who retires is forgotten by the end of the week. It shows that nobody is that important. The game moves on quickly. It's a young man's game. It's obvious that even without Nadal and Djokovic and Federer around, it hasn't made a dent in the overall attendance. People are coming out in droves to watch tennis. Nobody cares about the big 3 or big 2 or whatever.Federer's retirement already is forgotten, or so his fans hope. Going out on a bagel on Center Court as your last professional singles match and losing your last match ever period after holding match point on serve has got to be one of, if not, the worst retirement for an ATG
... Fed's retirement just happened and is too fresh on people's minds.
Nadal is slightly better at hiding it than Djokovic, but Nadal definitely wants all the attention on him when he waves goodbye. He knows if he retired now, people would forget about it fast since Fed is still on everyone's minds.
Fed had the luxury of retiring anywhere he wanted -- London, Basel, the USA, etc -- and he would get a standing ovation wherever he chose.
Nadal unfortunately HAS to retire at a tournament in Spain. And likewise Djokovic in Serbia. If they retire anywhere else, they'll feel like they won't get the attention they think they deserve.
This is why Nadal is delaying his retirement. He's taking a massive gamble with this decision though -- he knows the longer he delays his retirement, the more likely he'll be losing to more and more mugs on the tennis court. But he made this choice to try to get more attention for his retirement ceremony.
Some delusional fans on here.
Nadals not coming back.
Final match irrelevant. Feds final match was hurkacz yet he retired.
This is basic knowledge of sports science
Not with a hip injury, at 37. Murray had a hip injury but at much younger age.
Retirement is part of the career, and sometimes the most memorable (Sampras, Agassi). Going out on a bagel at Wimbledon is just part of the beautiful, inspired package that is Roger Federer's career. No one but haters remember Federer's retirement as going out on a bagel to Hurkaz. They remember his beautiful game and 20 freaking slams.

To be fair Fed ranking was because of Covid, Fed would be unseeded if not for covid, Fed didn't played single match till one year and played only 9-10 match before the start of Wimbledon 21.His knee literally gave out in the match lol. And yeah obviously rankings aren't relevant to you, because looking at rankings wouldn't make Fed look terrible.
He’ll get a WC wherever he wants tho.To be fair Fed ranking was because of Covid, Fed would be unseeded if not for covid, Fed didn't played single match till one year and played only 9-10 match before the start of Wimbledon 21.
Rafa is also moving to same place, if he skipped RG, he will be unseeded for further slam
Of course but I think his ranking will still be sufficient for him getting a direct entry into Wimbledon, but if he don't play Wimbledon then he will need WC for further eventsHe’ll get a WC wherever he wants tho.
Rightfully so.
Just wait may be Nadal has even worst. Losing a doubles in an exhibition is not that bad.Federer's retirement already is forgotten, or so his fans hope. Going out on a bagel on Center Court as your last professional singles match and losing your last match ever period after holding match point on serve has got to be one of, if not, the worst retirement for an ATG
Lol comeback here when your idol plays a slam QF at 40 years. Then we will see.Rankings aren't really relevant. Going out on a bagel at your best slam and following it up losing your last ever pro match after holding match point on serve can't be rosetinted. It's a far worse exit than Lendl's.
Your Fed worship is laughable. You should be happy Nadal gave him a perfect farewell party.... Fed's retirement just happened and is too fresh on people's minds.

I wonder why Rafa haters are constantly cheating readers by creating fake stories about him.The 2nd best player Federer deserved better surely than this Mallorcan cheat
Oh, you didn't know that was because he tried to come back with a severe crippling knee injury that forced him to retire? Thats actually credit to him for trying with a huge injury past 40 yrs oldFederer's retirement already is forgotten, or so his fans hope. Going out on a bagel on Center Court as your last professional singles match and losing your last match ever period after holding match point on serve has got to be one of, if not, the worst retirement for an ATG
Does Borg get credit or lols for his attempt at a comeback?Oh, you didn't know that was because he tried to come back with a severe crippling knee injury that forced him to retire? Thats actually credit to him for trying with a huge injury past 40 yrs old
Pete knew it was time to move on. He had no more motivation, in his words, "I had nothing left to prove to myself."I am not a huge fan of retiring when we have won a slam, because that leads to regrets later on, we keep wondering if we left some slams on the table ? So it is better to retire like Serena did at USO when she finally knew that she could not compete with young girls. The disturbing thing about Federer's retirement is that he retired at a circus, a great competitor for 24 years retiring at a stage meant for charlatans/ tennis exhibitionists, it is a very bad way to go.

I don't know Borg's history I just know its ******** and extremely biased to act like a 40-41 yr old was a bad player cause they were trying to come back from a career ending injury and couldn't. Anything negative that happens at that point is irrelevant doest matterDoes Borg get credit or lols for his attempt at a comeback?
What's depressing is how true this is in almost all areas of life. Somebody quits/retires/dies/leaves the limelight and within a few months nobody cares.Every player who retires is forgotten by the end of the week. It shows that nobody is that important. I am sure he would retire if he had won WB19. After that he wasn't important factor on the court anymore. We saw him at small number of tournaments since AO20 and people were get used to a fact that he is not playing.Federer's retirement already is forgotten, or so his fans hope. Going out on a bagel on Center Court as your last professional singles match and losing your last match ever period after holding match point on serve has got to be one of, if not, the worst retirement for an ATG
Where do you see him wining 3 more slams?Even this year RG would be a sensation if he wins, considering his form.Retirement is a non-factor this year, because the Olympics aren't until next year, plus Rafa will want to reach 25 Slams so Djokovic can't reach him.
The names. Baghdatis, Philippoussis, Papadopoulis, Srichaphan, Hewitt, Roddick...it sounds like a Dr. Seuss book. Except it's real and their quality is equally silly. What's your theory about all of the hardcore Fred-haters in this joint?
I'd hate for you to watch the current crop of players then if you think they're badThe names. Baghdatis, Philippoussis, Papadopoulis, Srichaphan, Hewitt, Roddick...it sounds like a Dr. Seuss book. Except it's real and their quality is equally silly.
Alcaraz is apparently the next tier 1 ATG so...I'd hate for you to watch the current crop of players then if you think they're bad
Does Borg get credit or lols for his attempt at a comeback?
Exactly. It's a "what have you done for me lately" mentality. It's all about the here and now. What's depressing is how true this is in almost all areas of life. Somebody quits/retires/dies/leaves the limelight and within a few months nobody cares.
I put Federer anywhere between 5 and 7 in the Open Era. Pretty high.Lolz, for sure. He didn't win one match!
Fed made 4R at the French and QF at Wimbledon. That's a good result for any player let alone one who you rate so low
Helped by the ATP that gave him a high ranking in both Majors tournaments.Lolz, for sure. He didn't win one match!

Couldn't Nadal retire at RG?Nadal unfortunately HAS to retire at a tournament in Spain.

I always thought that Fed will retire at WB or Basel...Couldn't Nadal retire at RG?
After all, he has won a few titles there.
Nope thats insanely low, who above him?I put Federer anywhere between 5 and 7 in the Open Era. Pretty high.
Laver, Novak, Rafa, Petros and possibly Borg...though @nachiket nolefam has got me thinking I should put Fed over Borg because of the early retirement which would put Rodge at #5.Nope thats insanely low, who above him?
Fascinating perspective. Please explain, I'm always looking to learn. So really it's a miracle that he ever beat Rafa or Djokovic, and you're looking at this all wrong.

How many times have your mothers dropped you as a child?Laver, Novak, Rafa, Petros and possibly Borg...though @nachiket nolefam has got me thinking I should put Fed over Borg because of the early retirement which would put Rodge at #5.
Mothers!?How many times have your mothers dropped you as a child?
You predicted his retirement but surely have no evidence regarding the second part of your "prediction" - the intention, which you conveniently made up by projecting your fragile ego onto himLol I just remembered this thread. I 100% predicted it
Your assumptions about Rafa are incorrect (OP), as usual, Fed devotee!Lol I just remembered this thread. I 100% predicted it
