nadal should have let fritz through

there were signs of sportsmanship from fritz (in combination with his own ego of course) to not go rafa's backhand side for a brief while when rafa was clearly struggling in the third set, it is difficult to play against an injured opponent.....nadal if he could not continue should have just exited in 4th set and let the tournament and fritz have what they deserve......it's not always about himself or his cygs, what is the use if you make it to the semis and can't even compete......it is not like he got injured after the match......it was clear that he was injured heading into the match.....i am not happy with this decision from rafa, if he wanted to quit he should have done it during the match and allow the organizers to conduct proper semifinal contests.....

Rafa let Fritz beat him at IW, playing to the end with a fractured rib and Rafa did the same in the AO 2014 final against Stan playing with a bad back; he didn't pull out when it was clear he wouldn't win and neither of them have ever acknowledged it. Fritz was boasting about drawing from his win over Rafa at IW and so was his coach and all the commentators who completely 'forgot' what happend at IW. If Rafa had pulled out, many would argue forever that Fritz was the better player and Rafa pulled out because Fritz was dominating the match. The fact that Rafa beat Fritz under those circumstances has softened the blow for me that Rafa can't continue to play.

They are professionals. They don't owe any obligation to make way for each other. Fritz should win his way into the SF not expect to be given a free pass.

regardless of whether what you write is accurate or correct (esp), if rafa had not given up the fourth set,
and even lasted until a super tiebreak,
why did fritz choose not to go rafa's bh?
was he still waiting rafa to retire?
so naive?
oh i am referring to fritz, not u

....did you want rafa to gift taylor a semi final berth out of pity?....it would have been disrespectful of nadal to give taylor an underserved victory....this is tennis, buddy....not a charity, in case you're wondering....

No. The only 'proper' way for Fritz to come through would be if the rules were changed to allow a 'lucky loser' at this stage of the tournament. Each match should be a fight to the finish, regardless of the consequences for fans.

It is disappointing for Taylor Fritz that he didn’t get through but that’s how it goes and the quarter final was a 5 setter so Rafa probably pulled up quite sore for him to pull the plug.
