For the big three, I’d tentatively say:

Nadal - 22
Djokovic - 20
Federer - 20

I explained Rafa’s distribution above, and as you can see I honestly don’t think Federer wins another major (although I’ve said that before and been wrong a couple times).

Djokovic is the least predictable player in this scenario. I wouldn’t expect him to play much tennis, if any at all, for the rest of the year given his health and he knows the goal is to be as fresh as can be for the AO. Also, as we’ve seen throughout his career, he either wins in insane bunches or he hardly wins at all, so depending on health and form, it’s just as likely that Novak won his last slam at Wimbledon as it is that he passes Fedal when it’s all said and done.

My combined optimistic and pessimistic forecasts for the Big Three put Djokovic and Federer in a tie at the end, with 21 slams apiece, and Nadal with 22 slams.

Looking back to the day right before the US Open, with the Big Three at 16/18/20 slams, the race looked nearly even. In a sport where championships follow the winner-take-all pattern, I find it quite amazing that these 3 guys were all able to reach that level of excellence in the sport.

So Nadal pulled ahead with his US Open win, but the race is far from over.

2021 end of season reboot!

The count stands at 20 for Djokovic, tied with Federer and Nadal.

For Nadal, I feel that this year's French Open was a major disappointment. If he had borrowed some of the form he showed in last year's match, he could have grabbed the lead in the slam race and become the first to have 21.

It just may come down to which player has the best longevity. The good thing for Nadal is that even in his late 30s, he will remain a threat at the French Open as long as he is healthy, and most of the next generation players at the top are the weakest on clay.

Fancy him to get one more FO. Uso plays too fast now amd AO seems beyond him but Wimbledon is a possibility if courts play as slow as this year. I voted 21 but 22 is doable.

Going with 1 more. So 22. Field is breathing down Djokovic/Nadal’s necks right now… Federer is already long buried, these two may not be far off. All 3 will end the same way: 1) “Upset” losses, 2) clear decline and lowered expectations - “he can still win if things go right”, 3) injury layoff, 4) final comeback that falls short.
