Need advice for good wrist brace !!

I suffer lately from wrist tendonitis and the pain is in the outside wrist if you know what I mean, I thinks it's called the ulnar bone.

I really need a good brace that will keep my wrist from moving and still won't affect my tennis.

thanks

I've used a couple of different things and they do seem to lessen the pain. I have simply wrapped it with an ace bandage as well as recently buying an actual wrist brace for like 8 bucks at a local sports store- both seemed to work about the same for me. I think you'll find most wrist braces have a hole for you to put the thumb in which obviously won't work for tennis...... just wrap the whole thing around your wrist, strap it on, and see what happens. Good luck.

I get the same pain on the outside of my wrist from tennis, so I've been using the wrist support from Babolat (blue one with the double straps) for about a year now. It's light, very comfortable, provides good support and doesn't move or come loose while playing. They're around $18 (US).

I haven't tried the one from Nike, but prior to the Babolat, I was using the plain neoprene kind you can buy at sporting goods or drug stores. The thing kept coming loose.

....unfortuneately, wrist braces didn't help at all for my ulnar pain.....however wrist splints helped me heal quite effectively while I took time off from playing....the night splint was probably the most effective as many people curl their wrists or clench almost into a fist while sleeping....this is not conducive to healing.....anyway, a wrist brace might help for you but if the pain gets worse, I'd recommend taking off a few weeks ands splinting....also gut in a "low shock" racket doesn't hurt either.....my wrist is much better now after struggling with the problem for months.....good luck

I tape my wrists with athletic tape, then put the nike wrist strap over it. It helps a lot, but I am trying to get off of doing it. Will probably have to continue taping until the winter when I can cut down enough on playing for it to heal better.

The trick is to not make the tape too tight. And not care about the wacky tan line or having to shave your wrist.

I'm actually doing the same thing, per recommendation of my coach. I was just wondering– when you first starting wrapping your wrist, did your kick serve suffer? Mine has taken quite a beating, the kick is probably 2 feet lower and I usually end up using more shoulder action (not good) to keep it from going long. Am I wrapping too tight?

Maybe you are making it too tight but I doubt it. Lots of people have mentioned that they cant believe how well I can serve with my wrist taped.

I tape it so that the skin isn't lower where it is taped. I dunno how to better explain it, but if your forearm skin at the tape line is puffed up then the tape is too tight. (Also if your hand starts to turn purple that is a good indicator.)

Maybe my serves are not at the apex of what they could be, but they are still plenty good enough to compete with.

I would think that you have one of three problems.

1) Your service motion is excessively wristy.

2) Mentally you think that you wont be able to hit a kicker as well so you alter your motion sub consiously.

3) You are consious of your injured wrist, and are tightening up your arm and impeding your natural racquet acceleration.

Does anyone know where I can buy the babolat wrist support (the blue one with two straps). I am in the US and when I search it on the web all I come up with are sights in UK that do not ship to the US.

"Squash and Tennis Shop" in Cambridge, MA carries them--if you can't find them anywhere else, may want to call them and order directly from them.

Also, I've found them marketed under different company's logos. Search for wrist braces, look at the pictures, and look for tell-tale dual bands that wrap around the wrist to tighten.

My wrist surgeon recommended not wearing a brace, but I did find the Babalot one helpful while playing...

Sorry, that was "Tennis and Squash Shop":

(I'm not affiliated with them, and don't even really like them, but they did carry what you're looking for last time I was in there.)

I hurt my wrist like 2 months ago but the pain just won't go away completely. I rested for like 3 weeks but didn't improve at all. Then I was like" what the heck! I will just keep on playing!!! And somehow my wrist actually feels better after the game. Now when I play I just tape my wrist with sports tape but my serve suffers a lot. The pop is gone and the accuracy drops to like 30%!!! I think somehow the tape just REMINDED me of my injury and my body just afraid to use any force when I serve.

I started to use the thingy called PowerBall and hopefully it will strengthen my wrist and forearm eventually.

Forget a brace. Try a copper bracelet with magnets

That worked for me within 2 weeks (no tennis, limited usage) I had no wrist pain. My tendonitis was so bad I couldn't hold a fork to eat. The bracelet broke after 2 years and I haven't had any trouble since.

I made one as they arn't available here (south africa) and it works great. I had pain both on the ulna side and TFCC (back of wrist). My wrist is better but I still wear it.
I've seen this device come up on every thread about wrists. Looks like an inferior copy of the Babalot brace at about 3 times the cost.

It's not the same it has 2 thinner straps that go above and below the ulnar bone and help hold it in place. Not saying it's better than the Babolat one and yes it is pricey but it does work (well my home made one does). Not sure that I would pay $50 for one TBH.
