Let me just start this week by saying pro football can't even come close to what happened last night. Congrats to Boise State on an incredible game. I thought I would break down the playoff matchups this week, just to switch it up a bit.
NFC Wild Card Playoffs:
Dallas Cowboys at Seattle Seahawks- Last week I predicted early exits for both of these teams, but since they play each other this week obviously someone has to win. The Cowboys have struggled lately and the Seahawks are coming off a win in week 17, with Alexander and Hasselbeck playing better. That combined with homefield gives the Seahawks an advantage. My pick, Seattle 24-17.
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles- I hate the NFC. The New York Football Giants do not deserve a playoff berth. Couldn't we take an extra AFC team and stick them in? Anything to keep a team that lost 6 of their last 8 out of the playoffs. That said, Philly is at home, with a ton of momentum and a win against the G men in NY under their belts. My pick, Philly 28-14.
Side Note: The Bears are in trouble. Sorry Bear fans, but oh my god. Remeber that 1.3 QB rating that Rex had a few weeks ago? Did you ever think is could get worse? Well it did. Last week, against a non playoff team AT HOME, Rex completed more passes to the Defense than he did to the offense. 2-12, 33 yds, 3 INTs (two taken back for touchdowns) and a QB rating of ZERO. Griese didn't fare much better in the 2nd half, throwing 2 INTs. I feel bad for Bear fans, because your QB is KILLING you.
AFC Wild Card Playoffs:
Kansas City Chiefs at Indianapoils Colts- There are two teams the Colts do not want to face in the playoffs: The Chargers and the Chiefs. LJ and the Chiefs will be in Indy, and if they establish the run game early the Colts will be in trouble. I think the Colts are up for the challenge, though, and pick them to slow down LJ and get after Trent Green all day. My pick, Colts 31-28.
New York Jets at New England Patriots- This is the game of the week in my opinion. The pupil takes on the teacher, Mangini v. Belicheck, and the Jets, who won at NE in November finished the season strong, winning 5 of 7 after their bye week. That said, who wants to bet agianst Brady and Belicheck in January? Not me. Pats win a close one 17-14.
A few other things:
My heart goes out the Family of Darrent Williams and the Denver Broncos. 24 years old, and shot outside of a nightclub on New Years day. Such a tragedy, and might make coaches look long and hard at the nightlife of players in the future.
Way to go Vince Young and the Titans. After an 0-5 start, Young went 8-5 as a starter on a "bad" team, and brought a lot of hope for the future of this team.
The Bengals were such a disappointment this year with all that wasted talent. 8-8 just isn't good enough for a team with those weapons.
R.I.P to Jim "is that UW gig available yet?" Mora and Denny "the Bears are who we thought they were!" Green as coaches. Best of luck in the future guys.
More playoff talk next week for sure, but until then...
