Well done Nole! Nice to see Tipsi right behind him too. :)

I don't remember Tipsarevic getting so many bagels and breadsticks this year. Djokovic was almost guaranteed to have the most bagels after his form this year.

Djokovic shoudn't have 23 fries...if it weren't for his sportmanship of donating a game.

What is Tipsarevic doing there in second.....I never expected that.No wonder he is numer 9 in the world.

I think Tipsy's place on this list indicates 2 things.

1. He had a very strong year, had a bit of a breakthrough.
2. He is a very streaky player. When he gets hot, he makes incredible shots. When he goes cold, he just keeps missing.

So if Nishikori bageled the guy who won the golden bagel award, what does that make Nishikori?

Wow, surprised to see Nadal so high honestly.
Why ? 2011 was a great year for Nadal. Just because Nole outplayed him, doesn't mean he had an awful year.

Dr. Zagor has done a PhD thesis on Nadal's 2011 performance and concluded it was his best year. With irrefutable evidence, I might add.

Good results yeah. But his level of play was very shotty. I don't remember him bageling or breadsticking anyone. Obviously he did, but he just seemed to struggle so much this year.

You can really see that Federer is starting to 'reserve' energy, kind of Sampras like, just focussing on his own games once he's got the break. He's only tenth or so, while he is ranked third.

Agreed. Otherwise he would have double bageled the nadal.

So the likes of Simon, Monaco, and Mayer got more Bagels than Federer this year and people still refuse to believe he has declines in form??

I'm not. He made 3 slam finals and won a staggering 65 matches (only 6 less than Djokovic)! And doesn't include the bagelling of Tsonga and Gasquet in Davis Cup semis. The fact this is an 'off-year' shows how legendary his standard is. Nadal's off-year is a better year than every year of Djokovic's career except for Djokovic's 2011.

Is it better than Djokovic's 2008? I don't think it is.

I'd like to know how many bagels these chaps received this year.

Out of the current top 10, just these 4:

Nadal = 2
Tipsarevic = 2
Djokovic = 1
Almagro = 1

Note: Djokovic retired in two matches when 0-3 down so maybe these two halves should add up to 1 full bagel which would put him level with Nadal and Tipsy? :wink:

Nadal made 3 slam finals and won one of them. In 2008, Djokovic made 2 slam finals and won one of them. Not sure what else Djokovic did. Nadal also has the Davis Cup most likely.

In 2008, Nadal made 2 slam finals and won both of them (FO & Wimbledon). He also made 4 Masters finals and won 3 of them (MC, Hamburg & Toronto).

In 2008, Djokovic made 1 slam final which he won (AO). He also won the WTF and made 3 Masters finals and won 2 of them (IW & Rome).

So Nadal's 2 slams and 3 Masters tops Djokovic's 1 slam, 1 WTF and 2 Masters.

weren't we comparing nadal's '11 with djoker's 08?

or I guess we could compare djoker's 11 with Nadal's 08.

Oops you're right...sorry. :oops:

2011: Nadal won 1 Slam and 1 Masters.

2008: Djokovic won 1 Slam, 1 WTF & 2 Masters. Clear winner.

2008: Nadal won 2 Slams and 3 Masters.

2011: Djokovic won 3 Slams and 5 Masters. Clear winner.

fed 2010: 1 slam, 1 WTF, one Masters

Nadal had three, right? One to Lacko in Doha (he still won the match), one to Murray in Tokyo, and one to Federer in WTF.

Always forget that one from Lacko probably because as, you say, he still went on to win the match.

Nadal clearly top bagellee top 10 player in 2011 with 3! :)

Come on. Rafa reached so many clay masters finals as Dr Zagor has burned into our brains.
How many finals did Roger reach ?

according to rafa fans, finals dount count only what you win :)

( of course rafa had a better 11 than fed's 10, precisely b/c of all the finals reached).

So Novak gets the second highest Bagel count since the award started in 2004:

2004 - Roger Federer - 11
2005 - Rafael Nadal - 12
2006 - Roger Federer - 18
2007 - David Ferrer - 7
2008 - Rafael Nadal - 10
2009 - Rafael Nadal - 9
2010 - Robin Söderling - 9
2011 - Novak Djokovic - 13

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golden_Bagel_Award

I'm not embarrassed to admit that throughout the year I thought Federers record of 18 would be beaten, considering Djokovic had given out 9 Bagels before the end of May.

Fed 2006 > Nole 2011

Federer's 2006 is well ahead of any other performance in this decade. In fact, he served almost as many bagels in that year as Sampras did in his last five years combined as the world no. 1 (20 from 1994 to 1998 inclusive).

I'm not sure who holds the Open era record, but I suspect it's Bjorn Borg. Does anyone know how many bagels Borg served in 1978 or 1979?

You're probably correct. Borg dished out 23 bagels in 1978 and 19 in 1980.

Yeah but the Golden Bagel award only counts for ATP tournaments before the WTF, hence why Fed only has 3 instead of 4 (bagelled Nadal).
