Novak Djokovic blasts ‘awful performance’ in shock defeat to Dan Evans at Monte-Carlo Masters

I wish for once, he could be a gentleman and be honest. He should have said he was outplayed. That is the truth. Evans outplayed him. There's no tank here, and all that b.s. about saving himself for other tournaments is utter nonsense.

From what I read he was honest.

"He deserved to win. He was a better player. He was just more focused I guess and played with a better quality in the decisive moments.

"He's really a nice player to watch, not a great player to play against. Lots of talent. He's very unpredictable with his shots. He dismantled my game."

What else could he say?

This may hint at the true state of the men's game. Djokovic is able to prepare and get up for the AO because it is historic. But outside of that, he is having issues and Evans beating him is not such an upset. Djokovic is what, 33?, and Evans is having a great twilight period. What we have is these legends pumped on the GOAT mania, some terrified next genners and then the likes of Evans with potential having a last throw of the dice. Then, we have Nadal who looks like he might take advantage of that by being very motivated.
For me Djokovic should skip the clay season. It’s the wise thing to do or at least limit his schedule of it. He can tank in early rounds as it’s all about Wimbledon, olympics and us open for him. At nearly 34 it makes total sense. There is no real drive to win these tournaments as he’s won them all already and has the weeks at no1 record now.

I agree, and as the losses mount up in the lesser events, the confidence of his rivals rises.

I thought Djokovic approached this match like a training session. He wasn’t even angry when he was losing. I know when he’s serious he starts insulting the umpire and abusing the ball kids. None of that happened so he didn’t really care.

keep in mind that he had a pretty bad injury at AO
we don't know how much time he was out of training
so we don't know what is his tennis form & fitness condition

so, yeah, it could have been a training tournament, given the circumstances, so I wouldn't draw many conclusions from this match
