Number 1 ranking in play for 4 players going into Wimbledon

A long time has passed since the number 1 position was in play for so many players.

If Murray wins, his total of 9390 cannot be surpassed, even if Nadal reaches the Final (8485)

If Nadal wins, his total of 9285 cannot be surpassed, even in Murray reaches the final (8590)

If Wawrinka wins (will have 8130 pts):
a) Murray must lose in SF or earlier (SF gives him 8110)
b) Nadal must lose in SF or earlier (SF gives him 8005)
c) Novak has 0 chance of getting to no.1 (F gives him 6915)

If Novak wins (will have 7715 pts)
a) Murray must lose in R4 or earlier (R4 gives him 7570)
b) Nadal must lose in QF or earlier (QF gives him 7645)
c) Stan has no chance of getting to no.1 (F gives him 7330)

If Murray goes out in round 1 or 2, Nadal must make the second week to be No.1
If Murray goes out in round 3, Nadal must get to QF.

It's only a matter of for Nadal to overtake Murray. And Unless Federer can replicate his form in the spring, Nadal got an easy year end number one.

Edit: it's gonna be far from easy of course, but you know what I mean

Pretty weird that Nole actually can regain the nr1 spot if he wins, after such a bad season. But Murray has been even worse, and Fedal was far behind because of injuries so it makes sense.

If injury free it seems like a matter of time before Fedal will be nr 1 and 2 and stay there, with Rafa as the favourite for YE1. But with grass and indoor to come, i believe in Roger at nr1 again:).

If Feds wins Wimbledon he would cut the lead around 1500-1000 points and post July if both play full schedule, Federer is probably the favorite to outscore him. Nadal has never had a season where he played the entire year in top shape, lets say like Novak in 2015 or Murray 2016. Can he do it at 31, he is reaching final after final ... it has stop at some point. I think that on hard, the younger guys would be quite confidenent to beat Nadal and he would suffer some blows.

If the lead after Wimbledon remains at 2000+ than he would be quite certain number 1 bar injuries

i could see a scenario in wich federer wins and nadal by reaching the semis gets to #1, i think murray will lose in 4th round or quarters

Neat permutations. Add to that: if fedr wins, the odds of him holding the #1 ranking sometime later this year is probably north of 80%.

Many senarios, good figuring, yet no player stands out as a favorite.

Cheers

Big question marks beside every top 5 player right now.

That said, fedr is prolly the sentimental favourite of many. And if he does well in Halle, he'll definitely be the one to beat at SW19.

We're all losers for believing in dumb conspiracy theories and electing an unqualified con man as President. Welp, America made its bed, now they can let Trump sh*t in it.

I find the fact Wawrinka and Djokovic have a shot of making #1 at Wimbledon quite sickening...

Maybe there really is no point to the minor tournaments if people can make #1 by only occasionally showing up to the big scoring tournaments.

That might be the most shocking thing I've ever seen in tennis, like 10x more surprising than his 3 slams if Stan was to get #1. In the whole 10+ year run of the big 4, I think an outsider getting #1 has always been the most unthinkable accomplishment by far.

could be 'musical chairs-world rank style' in a bit..

like it was between 1980-81 when first Connors/borg/McEnroe and then 1982-85 Connors/McEnroe/lendl swapped no1 rank on loads of occasions.

Zero chance Murray wins this. No sign of the form necessary.
Rafa (on grass) and Djoks are "unknowns" at this point, as far as being contenders to win.
Fed is surely the favourite, but not a shoe-in. Upsettable in early rounds, IMO.

All so interesting!

4 different potential #1s by the end of Wimbledon, yet the best player in the world is not one of them ;-)

Not the guy who is 23:14 against Federer?

Nadal is a veeeeery close 2nd best at the moment, with the amazing clay season he's had, but Fed has beaten him 3 times in a final, with equal all-around performance this year. If Nadal beats Fed next time they play, I'm happy to pass the mantle of "best player of the season" to Nadal. But I guess in your mind, Nadal is ALWAYS the best, no matter the results :p

So that's why Federer chickened out of the clay season because he knows what he'll get.

Jeebus, Decimo, you have the brains of a chicken.

So, after 3 consecutive wins in finals two of them being beatdowns Federer was scared of little nephew?

Any other jokes that you want to tell?

:)

FedFans behave like children in the school playground. Non of your ne ne ne ne ne will take anything away from Rafa's achievements.

Good post OP.

It's funny how the time frame around Wimbledon has often seen #1 ranking change hands.

Rafa losing #1 to Roger in 2009.
Rafa losing #1 to Novak in 2011.
Novak losing #1 to Roger in 2012.
Rafa losing #1 to Novak in 2014.

The same way Nadal "chickened out" from playing any grass court lead ups? Your posts are pathetic.
