Open Stance 2-handed backhand?

My tennis instructor recommended I switch to an open stance two-handed backhand, and I have to say the change really helped. My normal close-stance backhand was giving me lots of problems, and the change really allowed me to rip into the ball....Is this fairly common?

What are some advantages/disadvantages to this type of stance? Thanks!

Since it really helped, didn't you already experienced the advantages? For 2HBH, this is the correct stance and there is really no disadvantages.

2-handed open stance backhand:

Close stance is opposite to open stance. In my view "closed stance" when the right foot crosses in front of the left foot, must be avoided in all situations because it hinders the swing.

Open stance or semi-open stance is very effective for going cross court whereas the square stance is recommended for going down the line. Square stance? When both the legs are in the same line (if you are standing on a clock, your right foot is at 12 and left at 6 o'clock positions). What is open stance? When your right foot is at 3 and left is at 9 o'clock positions. How do I get power with open stance? In open stance stroke, you must turn your upper body against your legs!

I hope the above helps.
