Players privacy

Are the privacy of players been violated by the the draconian drug testing currently implemented? I've seen Murray, Serena et al complaining about having to tell the ITF where they are every day, being woken up @ 6am etc. Heck Serena even got so scared from a knock on her door, she locked herself in her panic room!

The consensus from journalists & people close to tennis all agree that PEDS does not a a great tennis player make. Even Dr. Stuart Miller's (in charge of managing the ITF's anti-doping program) believes there is no benefit for a tennis player.

Hence why the stringent, over-the-top testing of players? Not one of the top guys/gals has been caught, so why waste money like this?

The drug testing in tennis is anything but over-the-top. It's not nearly stringent enough, and has way too many holes in it to be truly effective.

Honestly, I agree with Noah, they should just allow it. I mean, why are people against it anyway? Every athlete does their best to enhance their performance. Who's to say that PED are not acceptable but diverse nutrients are, for example? And it's ridiculous to ambush people at some ungodly hour and expect them to be cool with that. We don't need more stringent rules, we need a shift in perspective!

This is obviously not reasonable. The argument agains this is that, if you allow it, everyone will be forced to use them to be competitive.

The fact that they aren't allowed at least keeps some element of control on their use.

My title should've read 'Players' privacy' ;)

Well there are tournaments like French Open where they only test the losers in every round. It's so well-known, why bother?

Boo hoo, life is not fair, what else is new? As if top athletes aren't doing it now and those paupers ranked God knows where can only dream about it. If it were legal then everyone could afford it. But the status quo benefits some entities...

Exactly! It's waaaaaaaaaaaaay too lax as it is compared to other athletic sports.

What is the alternative?

By the way, when the man, responsible for the doping testing, doesn't think, that doping helps the athletes to gain competitive advantage, you KNOW, that the said testing is a joke. Especially in today's pro-sport.

I only ask you to think about it. Do you think the the ITF bans certain substances out of goodness of heart and love for the sport? How do you buy licquor differently today from, let's say, the people during the Prohibition? The people providing such substances will make sure the ITF keeps up the doping rules just as people in the narcotics business will make sure the governments keep on with their little War on Drugs! That's how CARTELS thrive!
