Hey Crazy Guy! Where are you at now in your Pro Staff odyssey? Have you settled on a particular Pro Staff frame now? Please give us an update when you get a chance. I'm keen to give a box beam 95 (or even a 90) a try after hitting with a friend's BLX Pro Staff 95...

Well, I hope I didn't disappoint those loyal 6.0 85 players, but I decided to leave the 6.0 85, and I'm using the 2014 Pro Staff 90 now.

Of all the Tour/Pro Staff 90, this 2014 is the closest thing to my 6.0 85. The feel is so similar that Wilson should have call this the Pro Staff 6.0 90.

It took them 6 generations to get the feel right, and on their last try (The Pro Staff 90 is getting discontinued), they got it right.

Now that I've practically switched to the Pro Staff 85 I have to get the Pro Staff 90 thanks to people like you haha

By the way, what was it about the Pro Staff 95 that you didn't like/which was lacking in comparison to the Pro Staff 85 and 90?

The Pro Staff 95 was rather difficult to play with in stock form. It was too light, yet its relatively more head heavy balance made it awkward to swing for a Pro Staff. The Pro Staff 95 had a balance of 5-6pts head light (strung), whereas the 85 and 90 had a balance of 9-10pts head light (strung). So it felt light, but it was "whippy" as your usual Pro Staffs.

Then, after a leather grip, and about 2 packs of lead tape, I spec'd it out to the specs of the Pro Staff 85/90 (340g unstrung, 12pts headlight unstrung). THEN it felt like a Pro Staff and whippy. But then I was like: "what's the point?"

I believe that if I had to throw in 2 packs' worth of lead tapes and a leather grip onto a racquet. It's no longer the racquet it was designed to be by the manufacturer. I believe that lead tapes, and various other modifications are for minor tweaks only. And besides, the 95 square inch head did feel big to me in my swings.

The 2014 Pro Staff 90 is everything the Pro Staff 6.0 85 was, but reaps the benefits of having a slightly bigger 90 square inch head. Switched to it and it's a done deal.

so...what bag are you going w/ the match your ps90s?

huh?

Still rocking my k-factor 6pack. These things were built like tanks.

But I am looking for a new bag, Wilson's Thermoguard 2.0 (and its reusable absorption thingy) has my name written on it. (Tons of moisture and fog where I live and play)

i was under the impression you were looking for a new bag because of the TW question/comments section because i was wondering the same thing about the one picture. the federer elite bag looks cool but seems to sag a lot. even in the TW video, a new top of the line bag shouldnt sag like that imo.

Thanks mate. So if you're willing to mod the PS95 (which I am and have done on my PS95s), then the PS95 is still a good option if I prefer to have the extra hitting area of the 95? In terms of feel does the modded 95 come close to the PS90 (and the PS85 for that matter)?

I'm really digging the box beam feel. It's opened up a whole new world of enjoyment, even for a recreation player like me!

I feel like EVERY tennis player should experience the thin box beam at one point or another.

Anyway, the 2014 95 feels very similar to the 90. But not quite, and there's no "modding" for a smaller headsize.

The feels GREAT for a 95 square inch head. But it's no mid.

I also feel the same way the PS95 just doesn't feel that solid even after adding weight. I added weight to mine and just felt I was losing control, something the PS95 was designed for. I'm looking to move from my IG Mids and k90s and at the moment and I was in a dilemma between PS95 and IG MP all summer, I chose IG MP over the PS95. After adding about 5gms of lead at noon and a leather grip the IG MP is just perfect for me... It retains control. It almost gives me the same amount confidence as my IG Mid in match play, not quite yet, but I'm sure that'll get better with practice and a very subtle adjustment to my grip. IG MP.... I feel just gives me a heavier shot and more penetrating shot than the ps 95.

Yeah I looked at the picture and I was like:

The sagging is a bit disappointing. BUT, all new Wilson bag will feature that reusable moisture sapping Thermoguard 2.0.

And I'm sure those non-Federer bags will be less expensive as well.

I've been demoing the 14' PS95 and PS95S this week and I've pretty much come to the exact same conclusion. Basically what's the point when I do all this to get the PS95/S to play like a PS90? I don't even see the sweet spot being that much bigger.

Yeah I meant, it got to the point where I felt like I was playing with just lead tape...

Thanks for the feedback. I'm hovering at around the 350g mark or just above so that's not too much lead. I'll go with the PS95 for now (picking it up tonight). Maybe in time, I'll graduate to the PS90!

Long live the box beam!

that's a bummer though. was hoping to use wilson bags since i'm using wilson rackets, but looks like the TF pro atp bag is a better option at this point

If you're interested in a Wilson 15-pack blue molded bag (the one on TW that is currently selling) let me know, I have one that is almost brand new, only used it for a month or so. $80 + shipping...contact ushynoti@gmail.com

Yeah I saw it, didn't want to trash on your for-sale thread because it's none of my business. But since you have the balls to come in here, and try to sell me your bag. Then I'll tell it like it is:

I'm not going to buy your going-out-of-style, used, and overpriced bag when I could get a BRAND NEW one from TW, or other retailers for ~$90 shipped. You're asking for $80 + shipping, that pretty much comes out to ~$90 shipped. Not to mention I'll have satisfaction guarantee, and the ability to return/refund. But best of luck to you on trying to rip people off though.

No matter how often you cheat on her you just keep coming back… :)

That's just how magical the 85 is really

I know that virtually everything between the 85 and the 90's are the same, except for the headsize of course.

Just holding the 85 in my hand feels like home to me...

I've used the BLX PS 90 for the past few years (I recently switched to the Volkl PB 10 Mid), and bizarrely I've yet to try the 6.0 85; and without a doubt I'm going to get one later on when I have more opportunities to play. The box beam feel of the 90 is absolutely enticing and I suspect the 85 would feel more or so familiar. Mids are my preferred racquets as of late and with a great certainty I'd feel at home with the 85.
