Pure control tour VS six one 95S?

Which of these raquets and why do you recommend them to a 3.5 guy?
I play mostly baseline and go to the net sometimes. Is there any racquet you really recommend beside these two?

Read that Chris at TW really liked pure control and 6.1 95S.
I play with a bio300 tour with some lead at 3 and 9 but I wonder if I should get something a bit heavier as i'm finally getting some good strokes and I'm approaching mediocrocy in my game lately or at least I'm starting to generate my own power. I used two stay near the baseline but now the strokes are harder so I stay behind the baseline a few meters (an improvement). and I'm after something with more control than power.

Read that technofibre 315, 18 is supposed to be good to.

Well anybody??

thx

If you want to move further behind the baseline get a baseliner's stick (something like a Prince Tour 100 16x18 or an Aero Pure Drive).
If you want to have more of an all court game, then you should look at the racquets you mentioned.

It's best if you tell us what you currently play, so we can compare what you have and what you need. Control and power are very relative and subjective characteristics.

Hi

I guess I want an all court game. Which of the racquets I mentioned would you recommend to it and why?

I currently play an bio300tour with some lead at 3 and 9.

whew... This is a hard choice as you picked really good racquets considering what you want. Ideally, you'll want to demo them both to find out what you like more. I personally prefer the response of Wilson racquets to those of Babolats and I'm intrigued by the 18x16 string pattern, so I'd take the Wilson.
Another great racquet to look at (which I played for a long time and still take out for a hit occasionally) is the Head YouTek IG Prestige Pro.

In terms of playability:
The Wilson offers more power, more spin, a crisper response, is more maneuverable and more stable.
The Babolat is more controlled, more forgiving, offers a more muted feel and is better at serves.

Let me add that whether you like the racquets or not is pretty subjective, so take them out for a demo rather than buying racquets and then selling them again like a few members here ;)

Thanks for the reply spin to win. Guess I'll have to demo them then.
I think the babolat might be the one for me as it's more forgiving with a bigger headsize but I'll try them both :), thx.

Spin to win: If you are new to a players racquet would you suggest something halfway to a players racquet like the prince tour 100 16x19 or would you say go for the pure control tour? Is the weight on a pure control tour to much for someone approching a 4.0 rating? (I like to think)

there are quite a few 3.5s using heavier racquets, it's all about personal preference. You have already used a player's racquet with the 300 Tour, so the transition won't be too big IMO (the PCT is 0.5oz heavier and the 95S is 0.2 oz heavier, not too much). If you want to increase the spectrum of racquets to test I'd recommend the Prince Tour 98 and the Head YouTek IG Prestige S.

Thanks for the quick reply spin to win!

Do you mean the Prince Tour Pro 98 Racquet or the prince tour 98 in your recommendation? I'll definetly see if I can demo the racquets you recommended. :)

I'll leave that with the Prince up to you ;) If you want to give the O-port grommets (which I hate) a shot, try the regular version. If you absolutely hate the idea of playing with the O-port grommets, considering some of the bashing they get around here, then take the Pro version.

I recommend Pro Staff 95s because the Pure Control Tour has absolutely no power due to its flexibility and low swing weight. The 95s seems to be a very versatile racquet, but downside is it breaks string very fast due to its string pattern.

yangster007: Is prostaff 95s much easier to play with than the regular 95? I tryed the regular 95 and it was like a cardboard box outside the sweetspot.

Also anyone which of the following racquets do you guys recommend that I try:
the prince tour pro 98, Prestige S, Aerostorm tour GT, pure control tour, prostaff 95s; six one 95s.
Didn't feel like starting a new thread for that question :)

Glad for any help.

Glad for any help.

The four racquets from the bunch I'd recommend testing:
Pro Staff 95S
Six.One 95S
Pure Control Tour
Prestige S

Spin to win: Is pure control easier and more forgiving than PS95s and prostaff 95s due to it's bigger headsize? I know it has a heavier weight though.

I feel like I'm at a crossroad as to whether or not I'm up to handle a players racquet or not so I don't wan't an extremely hard to handle racquet but still something with more solidity than say an aeropro drive or bio300tour.

Could you say something of pros and cons on each racquet and which you would choose and why if you were a weak 4.0 who's improving steadily.

Hard to say if it is easier… It will be more forgiving due to more stability and the larger head size. However it also is heavier which may make it harder to play and leaves less room for customization. The Pro Staff 95S probably is more forgiving than the Six. One 95S due to the very open string pattern, which really opens up the sweetspot. Anyways racquets by pros and cons:

Wilson Pro Staff 95S:
+: Spin(!!), Control(!), Touch/Feel(!), Maneuverability, Forgiving for a player's racquet with its specs, Comfortable
-: Lack of stability and plowthrough, Low powered(!), High launch angle for some.

Wilson Six.One 95S:
+: Spin, Control, Touch/Feel, Stability
-: Can be uncomfortable and unforgiving for some

Head Prestige S:
+: Spin, Control, Touch/Feel, Maneuverability, Comfortable
-: Lack of stability, Unforgiving for some.

Pure Control Tour:
+: Spin, Control, Stability, Relatively forgiving
-: Not as comfortable as indicated, Babolat feel (weird for some)

This is the way I felt they compared when testing them. If it was me, I'd take the Prestige S or the Wilson Six.One 95S, but I recommend that you test them, since people experience racquets differently based on their playing style ;)

I play with the Pure Control Tour and it has plenty of pop. It also has great control and very good spin. Can't comment on the 95S.

Thanks for the reply spin to win very informative thx! And Cfidave.

I'll see if I can try the prestige S and six one 95S then! :)

I know they won't ship for a while, but TW is offering a $1demo deal with their spin effect rackets. Thus I am trying some out. I chose the pack with the prostaffs, six one, and blade. Pretty cool little deal to help market their products. Especially while they are on sale.

The 20 dollar off deal for the spin effects racquets ended yesterday so I guess this is their new deal. They are also taking trade in to buy their spin effect racquets. Closed for the weekend though. Will see how much they'll give me for a few of my collection.

Oh ok I see. I know they already do the trade in program, however I wonder if they will give you more for your rackets as part of the promotion? Curious. I'm really looking forward to my playtest especially at a price of $1.

Demo the Prestige S. Great racquet. Also try it with 3g of lead at 3 and 3g of lead at 9. Really opens up the sweet spot and improves the stability.

Spin to win I live in sweden so I can only order 2 racquets and there is no free shipping cost :(. But thanks for the tip guys. The deposit is heavy and I'm a poor student but I'll guess I'll save up to do it soon. The question Is if I should test the six one 95s and prostaff95s or six one and prestige S.

If money is an issue do not take the Pro Staff 95S. It is a string eater and will need frequent restringing, which can be very expensive. Test the Six.One 95S and the Prestige S (and get some lead tape in case you find the racquets to be too low powered or unstable and add at 3/9 if that is so).

Not sure exactly what you're looking for, but the prestige s is the lowest powered frame I've ever hit with besides maybe the Dunlop 3 series. Don't discredit it though, because it's great at what it's aimed to do. Really good value at its current sale price.

What do you guys think about the prestige S? Is it harder to play with than the dunlop bio 300 tour I'm playing with now? Should I go with the prestige s or six one 95s, thinking of buying one. Also if you go with the prestige s does it help much to get a more solid feel if u add 3 gram at 3 and 9 for total 6gram.

(Bolded part) yes helps a lot if you feel that you need it.

What helps even more is testing, I cannot know which racquet suits your playing style most.

The Prestige will not be harder to play than your current racquet IMO.

I am currently trying the babolat pct and have played with the wilson 6.1 95s. Between the 2 I prefer the pct primarily because it is more forgiving having a slightly larger head size; 98 to 95 sq.in. I thought the power was about the same, SW is similar, better control and despite a denser string pattern, good access to spin. At 11.8 oz strung its a little heavier than the 95s at a 11.5 but I didn't notice the difference.

Does the Pro Staff 95S eat strings faster than the Six.One 95S?
