question for pioneer dc stringers

I've done about 10 rackets now pretty consistently and i just wanted to clarify how to correctly tension it. As i've read, i just drop it, then raise it a bit and drop again until the weight is balanced, matching the line. But the thing is when i want to string a bit tighter with strings such as cyberflash, the weight wont initially even drop all the way down, so i end up just pushing it all the weigh down and just going for it, doing that for each main. Any feedback would be great.

First, this is in the wrong forum, you should be in the stringing machine forum. Second, you should try and leave the weight in the down position when you wrap the string around the tension head and the ratchet the weight until it is level, that way your not over tensioning the string(which you are doing now by forcing the weight down)

First, never push the dropweight arm down! The only force used is the force of gravity. The Alpha Pioneer DC Plus has a ratcheting clutch. If the arm drops (by gravity) below horizontal, the ratched will allow you to raise and adjust the bar to the final horizontal position. If the arm does not get to horizontal; you must release the ratchet and raise the arm, release the string, and then readjust the string, leaving more slack before lowering the arm again.

The starting position for the arm should be about the one o'clock position, not horizontal. Good luck.

When tensioning strings in a ratcheting dropweight, you should start with the arm down, not up, when doing most polys and kevlar. There might be a couple of polys out there that stretch enough to start with the arm up, but as a general rule, start with the arm down for polys.

And as others said, never push the arm down. That is adding extra tension, and could result in something very bad happening.

This is the Strings and Stringing forum...it's just fine to post your question here...

In normal "rest" position, the arm is at about 10:00 or so. I leave it there, slide the string into the linear gripper, but leave enough slack so that there isn't any tension applied on the string until the bar gets past vertical...tension starts getting applied to the string when I hit about 1:00 or a bit past that.

Let the arm fall gently to put tension on the string. If it goes past the horizontal mark, then lift the arm a bit and let it fall again...it may take one or two tries, but I usually get it on the first drop, or with one adjustment once I'm into the racquet a few pulls. If it's just a little bit short I can usually get it to settle at horizontal with a gentle "bounce/tap," but I'm stringing gut and multis, which are pretty flexible.

If you end up short of horizontal, release the string from the gripper and start again. You should be able find the right place to start (enough slack) after one or two pulls so that it becomes easy to get to horizontal or a little past it on the first pull, then you're home free.

I haven't done polys, so don't know about special conditions there...

Be carefull not to literally "drop" the weight. You should lower it slowly while holding on to the bar.
