i have the PS 6.0 85 china version, the one with the black and red butt cap.
it feels very light, statically. Any of you have the same thought? It doesnt swing very heavy either. Maybe its just me.

Here's my racquet history:
Wilson Grand Slam dont remember head size
Wilso Ncode N5 98
Wilson Ncode N6.1 95 16x18
Wilson PS Tour 90
Wilson PS 85 85

Ya, its more head light than the earlier versions and slightly lighter - by about 5 grams or so.

Your definitly right to feel a bit of a change in weight. Alot of the mainstream sticks you see for market in the US will have a slight difference in weight/feel than similar frames made/distributed in Asian and some parts of Europe.

Another example of this is the Wils PS Tour90 and the nCode Tour... both have been made and distributed as slightly lighter models in asia.

The current PS 6.0 is bit lighter than Pro Staffs from the 1980s and 1990s. Maybe it was done by Wilson several years ago so potential buyers wouldn't pass up the racquet on weight (lighter racquets tend to sell faster). Maybe it's lighter by accident. My solution has been to add 5 inches of Babolat lead tape (the heavy stuff) at each of the 3 and 9 o'clock positions. Brings static weight to 13.2 oz when strung. Just about perfect. Now only my game is holding me back.

so technically, in terms of static weights,
the n6.1 95 and PS Tour are suppose to be heavier than the PS 6.0 85?
wont adding lead to the head at 3 and 9 make it head heavy a bit?
so the reduced static weight technically makes the later PS 6.0 85's more user friendly?

The degree of user-friendliness depends on your conditioning and your game. In terms of lead-tape, yes it will shift the balance of the racquet towards the head a bit. Mine is now 8 pts headlight when strung (as opposed to 10 pts without lead tape). Changing the balance point offers its own set of pros and cons. Everyone will have to experiment to find the compromise that works best for them.

I have a friend's PS Midsize (85) from the 1980s and, with a rubber band dampener and one layer of Gamma cloth-type head protector tape from 9:00 to 3:00, it weighs 371 grams = 13.1 ozs.

I gotta say, I've been hitting with my Tour 90 and I'm finding it hard to maneuver. I didn't always feel this way but my opinion is turning on this thing. It's just too damn demanding.

Maybe it's 'cause it was designed for Sampras.....

From my list:

Chiao Ta model, white buttcap (Fairway 3/8 grip w/ 1 layer of TournaGrip): 13.2 oz.
China model, black buttcap (Wilson leather 3/8 grip w/ 2 layers of Tourna Grip): 13.2 oz.
SV, bumperless (Fairway 1/2 grip w/ 1 Tourna Grip): 12.7 oz.
SV, bumpered (Fairway 1/2 grip w/ 1 Tourna Grip): 12.8 oz.
Chicago, bumperless (Fairway 1/2 grip w/ 1 Tourna Grip): 12.9 oz.

All of them have 17g gut or 18g Biphase as mains w/ 18g poly (SPPP, Spinfire) as crosses.

Even the 13.2 oz. racquets above swing easy in contrast to my PSTour 90 (12.7 oz.)

hmmmm.....then it just my PS 6.0 85....feels so damn light
i actually like the PS Tour 90 more...much more stable compared to the
PS 6.0 85. My PS 6.0 85 feels so hollow and on the forhand, it twists so much.
One good thing about the PS 6.0 85 is that it is definitely more manuverable than the PS Tour 90. Not that i find the Tour 90 hefty, because i love the way it feels, the weight and the balance. It perfect for me, for now. Until i get back home and start using my n6.1 95s.

Have you tried some experimentation with lead tape on your PS 85?

i have never experimented with lead tape. too much fuss. adding lead. then counter lead and then test and then repeat. too much

I've had three Prostaff 85s, and the latest one I got (Chiao TA) felt oddly light and hollow. It didn't play well, either. It felt too flexible and unstable.
