Rafa transcends tennis; he's an inspiration for athletes from other sports

Márquez, the youngest ever MotoGP race winner, looks at Rafa for inspiration.
While Rafa Nadal fought for five hours to win the Australian Open , Marc Márquez suffered and was emotional on the other side of the TV, on the sofa in his house in Cervera. As soon as the match was over, Rafa lifted the trophy and Marc went straight to the gym motivated by what he had just seen
Since then the Spanish driver has repeated in several interviews that he is looking at that comeback to motivate himself to gain strength on his return to the circuits after overcoming his double vision problems and still working on recovering from his shoulder injury.
VAMOS!

I can speak about that motivation, I am 43, turned 43 this january, for past 3yrs I was cutting down my on court time, gym and swimming - first it was 5 days a week from 2hrs to 1hr, then 3days a week from 1hr to 40ish, then it was only weekends then it was only sunday 1hr hitoff and that's it no gym, no nothing - I saw the unyielding fight Rafa put up, unlike many others I just 'felt' this is a different day for Rafa, just from the start of the 3rd set I personally thought Rafa will take it to 5 but will probably run out of gas and was extremely sad and anxious, was bracing myself for Rafa slow down - amazingly the opposite started to happen by 4th set Rafa's - I just don't know what he did guys - just to my eyes it looked like he just was finding the angles - the old rafa of 2010 opening up court was showing up , not a single miss when he went to net - I just could not believe what was unfolding infront of my eyes - in my heart of hearts I knew this day was different but I have been playing and watching tennis since 1990, come on I KNOW what's possible and what not - and THAT WAS MY MISTAKE - I took Rafa's age and mine for granted, the 5th set - my god guys - I mean what was that, at the end of the match I thought to myself - this guy with fully blown kneecaps and then another leg disease is doing this ? what is my excuse to slow down, I have been upto 30mins gym, 1hr court and 20-30mins swimming back to 5days a week since february first week, it didn't happen right away, i first could only do the gym and tennis 30/30, but I felt 'INSPIRED' by Rafa, I felt inside me the love for tennis reignited, deleted FB app from phone, and trying to get better fitness ever since, I have always loved and respected Rafa, but his personal achievements I never thought would motivate me to this level. hope some day I can see him and simply say, thanks dude - you made me feel young again. I have this Final in 4k ( russian commentary ) - each time I watch it I realize something new I missed, the 4th and 5th set was probably the greatest 'tactical' sets played by any player I have ever seen - and Yes I have seen ALL Pete's matches Live since 1991.

I have that Sampras vs Courier match on VHS, when the match was going on - I did not understand why Pete was emotional, I was still young and the country I lived in did not have great internet access, it's burned into my memory - I could only understand it was related to his coach being sick from the commentary, later on - much later on I found the details of that match, I still remember even through that how Pete pulled of second service aces and was amazed by him, great to know someone shares same compassion and passion brother. cheers. :)

Yes that was the same for me I was to young to understand the emotion I knew was to do with his coach I though he had just passed away. Was amazing to see him come through and the adversity. I remember I actually stayed up and watch the match my folks had gone to sleep

Sampras vs Courier was insane. One of the most emotional matches I've ever seen.

I think it was 2009 AO with Fed and Nadal that was an INTENSE back and fourth battle, and that was one of those moments you realize the caliber of both, but Nadal just opened in up at the end. Not quite the amazing mental fortitude as this year, but still another example of his tenacity.

That’s a turning point for me not just the grit and tenacity but where he actually goes to comfort Fed that sportsmanship and for his age unparalleled
