Hi Guys,

I have been thinking of buying new frames. For the moment I’m playing with the Pure Storm Ltd. GT. With some lead added. Strung weight is 360g, lead at 12, 3 and 9. Counterbalance in handle.

I love the racket on my good and okay days on the court. But when I have my down days it is a bit to unforgiving..

Rackets I have considered switching to are:
• Yonex RDiS 100 MP
• Yonex RDS 001 MP (extremely cheap, why? :p )
• Pure Drive Roddick GT +

According to the TW Racquet power map all the listed frames above provides more power. But how accurate is the Power Map??

As you might understand I’m seeking something with more power but still controllable. I’m a big guy hitting the ball hard. With the PSL GT I feel that I can't hit those powerful winners, the control eats all the power.

Any other racket suggestions?

I would love some nice feedback on the RDS 001 MP due to the unbelievably good price…

Thanks,
Stefan

I found the RDS 001 to be a really stiff racket with extremely low power. It's low price is due to being an older model as it's bee replaced by the RDIS line. I would suggest the Yonex RDS 002 Tour instead if you want to stick with a Yonex. Otherwise, my other suggestion is the Dunlop 4d 200 Tour.

Don't really have much experience with the other racquets.

I won’t go with the RDS 001, I'm looking for more power. Really close to pull the trigger on three of RDiS 100 MP right now. But first I have to wait and see if the ALU Power Fluoro in a lower tension will provide the extra pop I’m looking for in my PSL GT. Maybe that is enough to make me like it every day on court..

I have now narrowed down my choices to the Pure Drive Roddick and the RDiS 100 MP

Anyone how hit with any of these or maybe both that can tell their thoughts on them?

Yeah....despite a great following in these forums for the RDS001,....and many fans of it,............i personally dont care for it too much. As mentioned earlier....the stiffness is considerable and problematic for me,......i found i can 'adjust to it'.....but it takes up to a set ot two to do that......by then of course ive lost,.,,..:(

I see you play the PSL as well. How does the Pure Storm Ltd compare to the RDS 001? In lets say:

-Power
-Control
-Sweet spot size
-Feel

And if you play your PSL with lead that would be interesting to know... :)

i've played with all the racquets you mentioned. i've demoed extensively the pure storm limited (non GT). demoed and hit with the pure drive roddick (non GT). owned the rds 001 midplus for a long time. just ordered the rdis 100 midplus but haven't hit with it yet.

power from lowest to highest: pure storm limited | rdis 100 midplus | rds 001 midplus | pure drive roddick. take it with a grain of salt but there's a yonex thread talking about relative power level with the rds 001 mp = 1999. rdis 100 mp = 1956. so just a smidge less.

control from least to greatest: pure drive roddick | rds 001 mp | pure storm limited.

sweet spot size from smallest to largest: pure storm limited | rds 001 mp | pure drive roddick.

feel from least to greatest: pure drive roddick | rds 001 mp | pure storm limited.

the pure storm limited for me felt great for an hour. after that they are just too demanding at least for me. your mileage may vary. the headlight balance makes it easy to generate fast swingspeed but you pretty much have to swing out each and every stroke. no free pace. control is spot on. touch is spot on.

the rds 001 mp will have considerably more power but less than the pure drive roddick. it's a good compromise since you can choose strings to get what you want. go tight poly and you'll get more control and spin. want more comfort - go soft multi. want some more pace - string lower. another bonus is it'll give you far more spin than you would get from the PSL and a little bit more than the pure drive roddick since you'll be able to generate more bat speed. the only negative for me -- it's azz ugly. the 2008 version is better since it has more black but the bumblebee thing - i didn't like.

so i got rid of em and i'm hoping the rdis 100 mp is similar to what i liked about the rds 001 mp -- in a more visually appealing package.

Well,...First,...i dont use lead,...i tend to play all my sticks as stock,...just cuz i know me,...and as soon as i put lead on i'm gonna 2nd guess myself,...seems just easier to buy sticks already at the specs i want.

For ME,....(remember this is subjective,.and i havent played the RDS a lot yet.)......the PSL is MUCH more comfortable, MUCH more control, MUCH better feel, definately LESS power, and to ME approx equal sweet spot sizes.

When i started adapting to the RDS it felt good. But it took a fair amt of time. I've found that sticks that really fit me, were good almost from the first stroke. The PSL was like that.
I think string setup plays heavily into this too. The PSL was great with Blackcode 18 @50lb. It did NOT seem as good with Proline II 18g @ 52lb. All i've had in the RDS has been Silverstring 17 @55lb. I think thats part of the problem i've had with the RDS, ...too boardy and stiff.....doesnt work with an already stiff racquet. Next stringing of the RDS i would go much lower tension,....and maybe a more reputed soft string. I'm still convinced the RDS is a good stick,...i just haven't 'unlocked its potential'. I KNOW the PSL is a good stick.

why not just try lowering your string tension. try maybe 3 pounds lower and see how you like that, or just some more powerfull strings.

Found the LM Radical MP on insane sale... I used to play the i.Radicals before i switched to the PSL GT. Would you recommend the LM Radicals to someone liking the PSL GT but seeks some more power?

Will do that next stringing, got a mini reel of ALU Power Fluoro. will go down to 24 kg next time, should give me a bit bigger sweet spot, power and forgiveness. Might be needed, that string bed is insanely tight!

I have played with Roddicks Babolat for about 8 months; I thought I liked it until I tried someone else's racquet, and then I was like wow, I have no feeling for the ball with the Babolats. After the Babolats, I had to play with Head for a bit, and I chose Prestiges but just recently I switched to Yonex RDiS100 mid. I really love this racquet, it took me almost a month to get used to it completely, but I have no regrets. Some people complain that it is stiff, but if you put a nice poly and don't string it too tight, than you have an amazing racquet.
You say you have narrowed your choices to the RDiS100MP and Babolat, well, my opinion is that you will get more power with the Babolat, but still get good amount of power but much better feeling with the Yonex. The Yonex with Alu Power Fluoro will be a great setup, I hope you enjoy it!
