Sampras...Agassi agree Nadal is best ever..

The headline is deceiving. What Agassi really said is: he is the best AT THE MOMENT and what Sampras really said is:AMONG THE BEST he has ever seen.
They also say, he's so young he has a lot of time left to do much more and I agree with that, which is why I think he could end up as the best ever. He definitely has a shot at it.

I know, I didn't have an opinion... I'm just posting the article.

I like watching him as well. It's awesome to see someone actively changing and adjusting their game before our eyes.

Here's an article in spanish from this week. The two are continuing their Andre Agassi Farewell tour where Andre comes out and usually loses 3 and 4 to Pete. :)

you can use translate.google.com to read. But maybe your espanol is good enough...

Poor Fed. I'm surprised Sampras is quick to annoint Nadal. I thought him and Federer had been pretty buddy-buddy. Figured he'd be more non-commital. Not surprised that Agassi rates Nadal more than Federer though. Other recent interviews with him suggested as much.

Next thing you know, Anna Wintour, Gavin Rossdale and all of Fed's celebrity flunkies who thought they were hanging the the GOAT, will be jumping ship to Nadal.

At this rate it'll take a miracle or a career ending injury from Nadal, for Fed not to be bumped down on the GOAT rankings list. Too many reputable names are jumping ship for Nadal.

I also think it's possible maybe Sampras was talking more specifically about Nadal's Mental Strength...which is unparalleled except for by Sampras himself

Everyone is jumping the Nadal ship now, because Fed's ship is sinking. However, it means squat. I'm sure Fed is aware of how quickly peope change their minds and bury players that were the GOATs a week before.

Nadal is an absolute phenomenon. That's my sincere conviction. Fed's slam semi-final and final streak will stay though. I don't think anyone can beat that kind of consistency. But can Nadal get to 16 slams? Sure he can.
Can he win more than 6 titles at 1 slam? I think he can as well. I don't think Nadal is done breaking records.

I don't think Nadal's body will hold out for 16 slams. Far too much effort just for a few extra revs on the ball.

Ha ha according to doubters he wouldn't even have held out for his very first slam (that argument was used about Nadal as early as 2004).
What Nadal has proved is that he can improve his serve so as to take some stress off his knees. Nadal will do what it takes. He's not going away.

Most doubters thought Nadal would get 12-14 slams. I'd say those 'doubters' are pretty much on track.

Five posts and you know the history of the doubters? Hmmm...

And as someone who has been following Nadal since 2004, this is not the case at all. This guy has been hated and bashed since the start. He was never going to do anything except win on clay initially. He was never "as good" as Federer.

Then it was, he would never win Wimbledon.

Then it was, he would never win any hard court major.

Then it was, he would never win the US Open.

Now it's the "doubters" thought he would get 12-14? WELL before Federer EVER had that many? Sorry, that is just plain wrong. Most of the haters thought he would be retired by now, and with just a few French Opens. They didn't think he would have a career slam well well before Federer did, age wise. Actually it's the career golden slam which Federer still doesn't have. Not really sure where your post is coming from.

Most doubters did not think he would be retired now, you're pulling that out of nowhere. Laver also didn't get a golden slam, do you want to know why? And as for your disdain of doubters, there were equally as many doubters for Federer after 2008. It all evens out in the end. The bottom line is, at this point in time, Nadal has achieved less. Age is meaningless since anyone can die tomorrow.

Uh no, it comes from reading tennis forums since 2004. Try again. Of course, if you're new you have no ground to stand on here. I'm talking from way too much experience (I wish I had the time I've spent on forums back haha). Unless of course you're a sock puppet account, and you've been around awhile. Hmm... ;)

Of course I know why Laver didn't get a golden slam, there wasn't Olympic Tennis back then. What point are you even trying to make?

What's sadder is that people expect the talking heads and journalists to remain on track. This happens with every generation. If you read some of Laver's comments over the years, you'd see he anointed Johnny Mac, the most talented he had ever seen, Borg, Sampras, Federer,...

If people believe Fed will go down as goat when his career ends, they may be sorely disappointed. The GOAT bestowment is no more than a dangling carrot to seduce those who are gullible enough to believe it.

Although I am surprised Sampras said it, because he has been very vocal in the past that he felt Roger was the best, but he's also been very careful to not put Nadal out of the picture.

Agassi, he flip flops all the time anyway, so...

But wait until Johnny Mac does a role reversal, it's going to be lights out then. Everyone will follow him.

They always do.

The so-called journo that wrote that piece pulled that headline completely off his ass. Nowhere do Pete or Andre say that, they are complimentary, but not at that level.

Ha ha ha.. Sampras said in 2006 that seeing Nadal made him lick his chops.

Does Sampras reckon that Nadal will pass him/already passed him :)

If Fed had converted a match point against Novak and regained his form in time for the Final, everyone would be confirming Fed's GOAT status.

How fickle this debate is.

love how the people with the Calendar Slams aren't counted among the GOATS, or Bill Tillden/Pancho Gonzales/Pancho Segura or any of the others that Jack Kramer mentioned as the GOATs lol

Laver never won a calender slam?

or Bill Tillden/Pancho Gonzales/Pancho Segura or any of the others that Jack Kramer mentioned as the GOATs lol

Who would Gonzales and Segura displace amongst the top six that i ranked?

As for Big Bill, tennis is not the same sport as it was in the 20's. It's far more competitive and physical and it is simply unfair to compare modern athletes to country club players of the 20's.

Come back to this forum if Rafa ever wins 5 US Opens in a row, and 5 Wimbledon titles in a row...
And wins the Aus Open a few more times....
And maybe if Rafa quits wasting time in between points and starts serve & volleying a bit more, then I'd respect him.
