German league starts at end of month .. Some really strong players in various teams this year .. I could end up playing Thomas Muster as he is #1 on the roster of another team based in Halle. .. That would be interesting!

Post a vid of Muster practicing in which you can't see his face. The forum experts will declare him a 3.5. That should give you great confidence!

Seriously though that would be amazing. Your level must be very high to even be in the same league.

Well, played our first Masters doubles 50+ match last night. Couple solid 4.5 opponents. Took me a while to adjust to both the hard courts and their pace. Played a better second set but still lost 6-1, 6-2. My partner's serve was off all night. He was going for way too much on his first serve and only had one game where he hit it more than once. I felt my job was just clearing balls from the net. He would either get a service winner or they would tee off on his second serve.

My serve wasn't great but I did hold once and got to ad in every other time. Just struggled to finish those crucial points. Should have held once more as I hit a great serve out wide causing a sitter but as my partner was going to put it away, the opposing net man called a let for ball in court. Replayed the point and lost it.

So its time to make hay in the consolations which was our plan all along. Looking at the draw we did win the most games in our loss as none of the other consolation teams won more than one game. That should give us a bye into the finals. One match to defend out consolation championship from last year. :-D

Of course the guys that beat us have to play the 5.0 guys.

Just an update from Spanish turf. Getting used to the weather (ie course conditions), first day a thunder stop on 10th hole. Then got to see and find the back-9 next day. Weekly stableford/best gross on monday. Got the best gross, but not very good though.

Today played nine holes prior to my lessons with the coach, level par three-putting for bogey on the nineth. Excellent lessons for two and a half hours covering chipping, putting and short irons.

Tomorrow will hit few drives, while she is making notes...

On today’s round hit few big ones, and found out, that my ball on a dog-leg right must have been picked off by the group in front the other day, cause today found the ball after similar shot at the middle of the fairway...

Well have to play in the first round of consolations against a pretty tough team tonight. Its an unbalanced team of a 4.5 and 3.5 player so we will have to target the lower player regardless of strategic alternatives I think.
Since we are both in high 3.5 - low 4.0 range I don't think our opponent can pick on anyone.

Not going to be easy.

I have been out of tennis for 6 months. Played mostly 4.5 doubles.
Will be getting back to serious tennis in 2 months or so for summer tournament season.

I've been playing with Head Microgel OS for a few years.
It has good control and spin, and is soft and forgiving. Does everything well but could use a little extra oomph esp. on the serve for the 4th - 6th set of the tournament.

My demos from TW arrived today, Wilson Blade 104 and Gamma Rzr Big Bubba 137.
Just shadow swinging Blade 104, it feels more substantial than my Radical OS but similar.

Big Bubba 137 is a different animal. I can feel the increase in swing weight but it doesn't seem too unwieldy.
I'll probably choke up an inch or so on volleys.
TW strung the demo with Prince Premier Control 16G which I read is similar to NXT Control. But I'm used to gut/poly, so full bed multi may be tough to control with less spin.
Hopefully will get to hit with it soon. Will report back.

The white Wilson oversized with oddly shaped flat bridge Serena used several years ago was actually quite good if you are looking for something between the Rad OS and Big Bubba. [emoji56]

Rallied with Bubba 137 for 15 mins and played 1 set of doubles.
Serves: You can hit flat BOMBS with this thing. I had 1 service winner and 3 aces in 1 game. Takes a little more effort for kick serves but still good.
Returns: Hit some of my best, fastest returns ever. Easy to block back or slice returns.
Groundstrokes: After several exchanges, your arm feels the SW. I can't imagine rallying all day with this racket.
Volleys: Blocking hard shots is fine but quick exchanges are difficult. You won't have time and will launch some volleys due to being late.
Touch: Don't even try looking for it in this racket. The 29" and high SW pretty much kill any chance of hitting delicate shots.

My arm is already sore from the high SW.
Went back to my Microgel Radical OS and played well.
I just need a racket with more power on the serve.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I tried 2015 Pure Drive 107. I could hit harder serves without much effort.
It was solid at the net but the stiffness was getting to my arm a bit.
Ultimately I had to let it go cuz all my hitting partners said I was hitting a noticeably heavier ball with MG Rad OS than with PD 107.

So ideally I would like to have a 107 - 110+ sq in (I miss too many returns and reflex volleys with 100 or smaller) that is not too stiff.
Weight 10 - 11 oz. Easy power on serve and good for volleying.
Any suggestions? What about Prince Textreme Warrior 107 or 107T?

Have you ever tried Yonex? Comfortable and good power. I currently use the 100 but at some point will move to their larger size.

https://www.tennis-warehouse.com/Yonex_EZONE_108/descpageRCYONEX-EZ108.html

Ultimately, The EZONE 108 is a great choice for those who want to add some comfort, power and spin to their game. In addition to being a nice option for the singles player, this racquet will supercharge your doubles game.

While I was looking at Big Bubba 137 reviews, I came across this Youtube video of Doug Ditmer who uses the king kong racket.
He plays very well with it. But this other guy Mark Vines (Red shirt) is incredible.
He is like a short 5'7", fat 180 lbs version of McEnroe.
His precision, understanding of the court dimensions, great hands, etc. allow him to be the dominant player in this match.

And he is not even using a Big Bubba 137. His racket seems like a powerful Wilson racket, not too heavy.
Anyone know what he is using now?

I would but TW demo dept. may not appreciate me doing that.
I think I can find a few 27.5", 28" in on the Bay.

Are you in US? I have some modified Radical OS frames you might like (28” @ 400 grams and 16 points HL with 386 SW. They CRUSH THE BALL!!!! [emoji3134]‍[emoji3601]

Yes, I'm in LA, CA but that racket would be too heavy for me. I'm looking for 11 oz of less.
Only a real man like @ByeByePoly can handle a racket like that.

Nope ... 11.5 is pushing my limit. 11.5 fine on 2hbh, but would prefer 11.0 on FH. Only BHBH can handle those clubs.

If you buy that pink Warrior, I will go buy the new pink Velocity. 8-B(y) I just had the new blue and yellow strung up ... passed on the pink.

Well we lost in the consolation round 3-6, 3-6. Just couldn’t hold my partners serve. And that was the difference. Sad part he doesn’t have a terrible serve, he just does everything wrong. Stands out in the doubles alley to open the court for the returner, misses a ton of first serves, double faults too often, doesn’t come in, gets mad if I poach and miss.

Of course he believes it’s playing “bad” but to me it’s just playing “dumb”. Get the first serve in, get it down the middle, follow the good serves in. That’s usually the recipe for success in doubles.

Oh well. Maybe he’ll have an epiphany and realize these things.

People like that rarely have epiphanies; they think the way they do things is fine and correct so if he lost, it must be about execution [or maybe his partner].

You could send these to him and preface it with "I just watched these vids and they are packed with good doubles info; I learned a lot!":

Of course, things like 1st serve %, DFs, and middle vs alley are more subtle that requires stats or video and he might not take that very well. Also, maybe he's just not interested in improving.

My sympathies.

I was paired with a 3.0 doubles partner for a casual game.
His serves and groundstrokes were slow puff balls that barely went past the service line.
Our opponents kept smashing their returns at me.
We lost 2-6 (my partner was broken both times). He then berated me for being such a terrible net player and said I was the reason we lost.

Another reason I hate doubles ... no one is as talented as I am with tactics as good as mine. Doubles does not complete me ... it dilutes me.

Shade back and stand on your service line to cover your partner hitting to the net guy? Hard to know where to start with that one.

I've watched those videos several times. And read the Art of Doubles and have sought advice on TW forums. I think that's a big difference between my partner and myself. I actively look at ways to improve my game and he's happy just going out and relying on good fortune to determine his game.

I know I have limited athleticism and need all the help I can get. And that's always the key to improving: accepting you need help.

I've gone to standing at the baseline when you become target practice.

Tough match yesterday against a team we were tied with for 1st.

Lost 7-5, 3-6, 4-6 in a 2+ hour match.

The good:
Evenly matched against a nice guy
Wrist is improving to the point I served the whole match with little discomfort and no worse this morning
Getting fitter; not too sore today. Movement was good
My loss did not affect the outcome

The bad:
My serve sucked. If I had just served ok I think I would have won. Almost zero free points, plenty of DF's
Missed bread and butter bh at some key points
Played the big points poorly. Like really poorly. Lacked confidence. Lots of no-ad game points and I lost the vast majority (one of which I was up 0-40, one I was up 40-15, another up 30-40 -That's 9 game points squandered right there!)ugh

On the bright side Saturday me and doggo took 3rd place in a one minute tiebreaker against some ringer dog in our local frisbee dog contest. Much fun was had.

One exercise is to put yourself in your opponent's shoes and make a similar good/bad list: you must have done multiple good things to achieve a scoreline like that.

No he's a poodle mix. He had really long fur until I had him cut short Friday = he was getting too hot.

This is him a couple weeks ago. He loves the water. Poodles were originally bred to be water retrievers - I googled it after he started jumping in the pool as a puppy.

Not too long. He chased everything and I always wanted a frisbee dog so I just started tossing a frisbee just out of his reach. At first he couldn't catch it at all and I figured 'no dice' but soon enough he caught a few, then more. Now with a good throw he's probably 90% catch.

If you want to teach your dog (I just learned this saturday at the halftime 'pro' exhibition) the way to do it is to roll a frisbee like a ball and get the dog used to it (since lots of dogs naturally chase a ball but no so much a frisbee). Then start throwing. Makes sense!

His funniest trick/trait is if he gets bored in the summer he will take a ball and drop it in the pool and then jump in and play fetch with himself. I think he purposely does this as we are about to leave for somewhere because he knows we can't leave/let him in till he's dry! :happydevil:
