Shapo unleashes on the FO as “trash!”

Whatever happened to a sense of personal responsibility?
You know, doing what's right, all on your own?
This is not a good idea. Irresponsible players can infect other players who are responsible, potentially causing a contender to be DQ'd due to a positive COVID test.

In his defence, haven't the other top players complained about the balls too? Nadal did for sure.
the nadal ?!... complaining ???

I don't see a problem with him complaining about the scheduling. Hes's right; it is trash and has been for years. Now about the conditions...well he came off a little like he was whining. Tends to happen though right after a tough loss.

Why did he come then? Sure, you can have criticisms of the tournament - and maybe they're even legit criticisms. But, you all knew it was going to be restricted and different with really abnormal conditions. Just take the view that it's a "bonus" Slam since it very easily might not have happened this year. Post hoc complaining isn't going to do anything. And, obviously he's upset by his loss which always colors players' tournament tirades.

ouch, i am sure his attitude will be different if he won that 5-hour match and his first round of doubles... but anyway... some good points.

re: no bubble - lets see what happens in about 2 weeks @ France....
Well, perhaps he should give up doubles, especially at a slam?

This explains why Shapo was so quick to criticize Roland Garros. I wasn't able to see the end of the match so I didn't know this.

Serving for victory at 5-4 in the fifth set against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the Canadian ninth seed was up 30-15, when a ball, which seemed to have landed outside the line, was ruled to be in by the umpire.

It could have been two match points for Shapovalov if the call went in his favour but he ended up losing the match 7-5 6-7(5) 6-3 3-6 8-6 after five hours.

Because you can do what's right and some yahoo brings the virus back from the club to the hotel, it's all for naught. Problem with contagion is that it isn't always in your hands.

Yep, he got hooked by the linesman then the chair to take away 2 match points on his serve because the FO would rather play 'guess the mark!' than get the call right. It clearly affected him (lost the next 4 points)...yeah yeah excuses excuses but that one's pretty valid.

Is this the evolved Next gen? DFs on important points. Consistently failing to serve out matches. Resorting to brainless bashing rather than use variety or tactics.

Yeah was a poor decision that probably did cost him. Still an embarrassing performance from a top 10 player. The other guy didn’t even do anything other than push the ball back in play and wait for errors.

To put it in terms of an industry that Shapo understands: he lost to RCB, who leads a tribute band to PCB, who is currently being sued by RBA for copyright infringement and unpaid royalties.

That is the issue here. Not the tournament, nor the line calls.

Shapo had one genuine moan about the event and he never made it in this article! That line call!
The stuff about the conditions, well, if it doesn't suit him hard luck. It seems to be suiting other players and you can't always have conditions favoring you.

Salient point from Shapo’s rant:

“It’s impossible to hit a winner with these balls, so I figured I might as well come to the net because I’m just not going to sit there and play a 10-hour match. In Rome, I could hit big, I actually hit winners. Here it’s just like the ball’s not going anywhere. So it’s just annoying that you have to be in that situation because it shouldn’t be that heavy and that difficult.”

Thiem: Haha Backhand go zoom.

Bad attitude by the Canadian.
Instead of admitting his mistakes, he looks for outside agents to justify his defeat.
Disappointing!

1. They dont know you're going to have a 5 hour singles match the day before
2. No one gives a F about doubles
3. If you're tired, just tank the doubles - no one will notice or care
4. If they scheduled the doubles in between your singles matches, you'd probably complain that you dont have a day off

I mean, since when is it supposed to be easy to hit baseline winners at the French open?

Just because the conditions don’t suit his game style doesn’t make them ‘trash’. It makes him a trash player for failing to adapt

He sounds as bitter as those clay court players in the 90’s who used to complain about wimbledon grass being too fast and unpredictable

Shapo should do a "Mind playing tricks on me Pt II" song explaining what happens when he is serving for a match.

Get Scarface to do a killer third verse instead of Corentin Moutet.

1. I don't think Shapo's doubles partner is in the singles draw so the doubles matches may be more important to him. Shapo feels bad from frustrated, generous loyalty. 2. After McEnroe lost to Connors in 5 sets at 1982 Wimbledon final, he threatened to default the doubles final if not shortened to 3 sets.

No wonder Djokovic says the heavy ball suits his game because he doesn't hit winners he just keeps the ball in play until his opponent makes an error.
Nothing can be farther from the truth here..Djokovic is an offensive type player..I lose count the amount of times he loses patience in a rally and wants to end it quickly with a dropshot..That is not someone who waits for an error from opponent. THATS Nadals game..

Didn't he also struggle in that first year when they switched to the Babolat bals back in 2011? I want to see he got pushed to 5 sets by John Isner that year in the first round.

Shapovalov is a spoiled brat and is also a choker. He never learned his lesson about hitting balls out of anger; at the US Open and Roland Garros he did the same thing that seriously injured the French chair umpire, Gabas. He was lucky that he did not hit anyone at this year's grand slams that I just mentioned. I find it disgusting that he did not learn his lesson regarding that; it speaks volumes about his true nature.
