Hi , i just want to ask do i have to pre stretch mamba premium natural gut by hand.
I strung it on a drop weight.

I am going to string it full bed on blx six one 95 16x18. I am thinking about 56lb which is what they recommened.

I do it. Just wrap it around a doorknob, and yank it until the memory coil goes away.

The best way to do it is:

I wouldn't do it on cheap guts. They are just so fragile, so you want to keep them away from moistures and air as much as possible before stringing. Plus improper stretching would could cost tear in the gut fibers.

Honestly, I never think it is a good idea to pre-stretch gut. IMO it hurts the playability. If you use a 2-piece method (also recommended) and you are reasonably careful, coil memory is easily managed. Good luck.

For the little amount of stretch done when you pre-stretch, it doesn't help or hurt. I've strung a ton of gut and the only benefit is taking some of the coil memory out of play as someone has already pointed out. You need to be careful to not kink, etc etc. So pre-stretch if that is your pleasure, doesn't hurt.

I use a quality nat. gut and typically just do a light hand pre stretch just to eliminate some of the coil memory. It makes stringing it easier.
That light prestretch is insignificant to the stretch that the tension head pulls on the string when it is strung up. Its not a big deal one way or the other.
